The undefeated, top seed and host Madison Warhawks (13-0) rallied to down the second-seed and previously undefeated Washington-Liberty Generals, 48-21, Saturday (Nov. 30) in the 6D North Region football final in Vienna.

It is the team’s fifth straight region crown, all won at home, and sets the squad up to host the Lake Braddock Bruins Dec. 7 in the first round of the four-team state finals.

It will be the defending champion Lake Braddock Bruins hosting the Fairfax Lions tomorrow (Saturday) in the championship game of the 6C North Region high school football tournament.

The contest will begin at 1 p.m. at No. 2 seed Lake Braddock (10-2) in Burke. Fairfax High School (8-3), which won the 2022 regional champion title, is the third seed.

Hayfield Secondary School has withdrawn its football team from playoff contention, Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid announced tonight (Monday).

According to Reid, the decision was made by Hayfield principal Darin Thompson as questions continue to mount about the recruiting practices used by head coach Darryl Overton and his staff and how FCPS has responded to the allegations.

A football season that began in potential turmoil quickly steadied and became a winning campaign of consistency for the Langley Saxons.

The high-school team finished 9-3, reached the semifinals of the 6D North Region tournament playoffs as the No. 3 seed and tied for second in the Liberty District.

Four-time defending champion, top seed and undefeated Madison (12-0) also will be hosting that clash for the fifth time in a row in Vienna, with kickoff slated for Saturday (Nov. 30) at 1 p.m.

Fairfax County Public Schools will enlist an outside firm to conduct an independent investigation of all student-athlete transfers, as questions about Hayfield Secondary School’s football program continue to percolate.

Superintendent Michelle Reid announced last night (Wednesday) that the district will pursue a “comprehensive and external independent investigation” of its student transfer and eligibility practices after she met with six football coaches who reportedly planned to forfeit their scheduled games against Hayfield.

Runningbacks Robert Roncskevitz from the Langley Saxons, Ethan Lebkisher of the Marshall Statesmen and Ethan Buhler of the Herndon Hornets were chosen first-team all-Liberty District for their performances in football this fall.

Each was the leading rusher for his high-school team, helping all three earn 6D Northern Region playoff berths.

Hayfield Secondary School has received a temporary injunction that will allow the powerhouse football team to play in the postseason.

The Virginia High School League confirmed that an appeal filed in Fairfax County Circuit [Court] by Hayfield parents regarding the reinstatement of the Hayfield football team to the league’s Class 6 Region C football playoffs has been granted. The VHSL had no additional comment.
