A 1-year-old girl died today (Thursday) following a police pursuit that started on I-95 in Franconia ended with a crash in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

According to the Virginia State Police, troopers attempted to stop a vehicle headed north on I-95 near the South Van Dorn Street exit at approximately 8:46 a.m. today (Thursday).

Metro is planning to spend the summer hyping up the D.C. region’s public transportation, starting with a family-friendly celebration for transit lovers this Saturday (June 29).

The inaugural Metro Fest at the Franconia Metro station is open to the public at no cost. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include arts and crafts, games, entertainment, snacks, water, and Metro-branded giveaways, according to a press release.

The Fairfax County Park Authority will dive into Memorial Day weekend with the opening of three seasonal water amenities, including The Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole in Reston.

The popular water park inside Lake Fairfax Park (1400 Lake Fairfax Drive) will open for the summer at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday). Initially, the facility will only be open on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, but operations will expand to include weekdays starting on June 18.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has asked CSX Transportation to share the load when it comes to moving sewer infrastructure affected by its plans for a third passenger rail line connecting Franconia and Lorton.

Last week, the board unanimously approved a letter to the North American rail company urging it to assist with relocating several sanitary sewers at risk of contamination during the construction of the Virginia Railway Express rail line.

Fairfax County is taking another look at its plans for the Franconia Governmental Center.

After two initial meetings to gather input from the community in April, Franconia District Supervisor Rodney Lusk hosted a final community conversation at John Lewis High School on Monday (May 6) to share preliminary feedback on what the county should do with the nearly 3-acre property at 6121 Franconia Road.
