Updated at 3:15 p.m. — Southbound Reston Parkway has reopened at Market Street after an extended closure due to this morning’s fatal pedestrian crash, police say.
Earlier: A pedestrian was killed in a crash on Reston Parkway earlier this morning (Tuesday).
Police said at 8:16 a.m. that a vehicle hit the adult man on Reston Parkway near Market Street in Reston. The man was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The driver remained on the scene of the incident, which occurred around 7:14 a.m., according to scanner traffic on Open MHz. A dispatcher described the vehicle as a gray Mercedes.
The southbound lanes of Reston Parkway are closed.

A child has been hospitalized after they were hit by a driver just down the road from Chantilly High School.
Fairfax County police officers responded to the intersection of Stringfellow Road and Poplar Tree Road around 5:09 p.m. for the crash, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.
“It’s going to be an approximately 8-year-old versus a red Ford F150,” an officer said on the scanner.
The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, but they are now in stable condition, a Fairfax County Police Department spokesperson says. The driver, an adult man, remained at the scene, according to police.
The left-turn lane from Stringfellow Road to Poplar Tree was shut down for police to investigate the crash, but the road reopened around 6:26 p.m., the FCPD said.

(Updated at 1:05 p.m.) Traffic on northbound George Washington Memorial Parkway is being detoured after a man was hit by a vehicle near Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) in McLean this morning (Friday).
The U.S. Park Police (USPP) says its officers responded to the area of the GW Parkway and Route 123 interchange around 8:50 a.m. for a crash that involved “a vehicle and a person on foot.”
“The person on foot was transported to the hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries,” a Park Police spokesperson said. “The northbound GWMP is diverted to Spout Run Parkway.”
Police confirmed that the person who got hit had been working on the GW Parkway. The northern section of the GW Parkway has been under construction for months as part of a rehabilitation project.
According to scanner traffic on Open MHz, a dispatcher told responding Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units around 8:59 a.m. that the crash had been described as a “hit and run.” However, USPP says it wasn’t a hit and run.
As of 11:14 a.m., the GW Parkway’s northbound lanes remained closed around the ramp to Chain Bridge for the crash investigation, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation’s traffic camera site.

A woman suffered serious injuries earlier this evening (Monday) when she was apparently hit by a Metrobus on Little River Turnpike.
“Officers are investigating a bus crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on Little River [Turnpike] and Hummer [Road] in Annandale,” the Fairfax County Police Department said. “The pedestrian, an adult female, was transported in life-threatening condition.”
Eastbound Little River Turnpike was shut down at Hummer.
First responders were dispatched to that intersection for the crash just before 10 p.m., according to scanner traffic on Open MHz. When police and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units arrived, the woman was found trapped under the front wheels of the bus.
“It does look like we’ve got one patient with severe head wounds. She is alert and conscious right now,” an FCFRD responder said at 10:04 p.m.
The fire department responder in command reported at 10:10 p.m. that the trapped woman was a pedestrian and the vehicle was a Metrobus.
Metro didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The woman was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries. No passengers were on the bus, per the scanner.

A pedestrian remains hospitalized two days after he was hit by a driver on Route 29 in the West Falls Church area, police say.
Medics and police were dispatched to Route 29 at the Hollywood Road intersection around 8:07 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 11), according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.
A 911 caller reported that a blue Tesla struck a pedestrian, who was injured, a police dispatcher told responding officers at 8:07 p.m. The Fairfax County Police Department didn’t confirm the type of vehicle involved in the crash by press time.
The pedestrian, an adult man, was transported to a hospital with injuries initially considered life-threatening, police said. Eastbound Route 29 was shut down at the intersection while police investigated the crash.
As of this morning (Monday), the man is still in the hospital, but his condition “has been upgraded to non-life threatening,” according to the FCPD.
Police say that the driver in the crash remained on the scene and “has cooperated fully” with the investigation, which is still active.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that alcohol may have been a contributing factor for the pedestrian, but a thorough examination is ongoing,” an FCPD spokesperson told FFXnow. “It is important to note that speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors on the part of the driver.”
According to state data, this is the fourth crash at the Route 29 and Hollywood intersection since 2020 where a pedestrian got injured. Crashes with injuries occurred in February 2020, March 2022 and January of this year, but there haven’t been any fatal crashes involving pedestrians since the Department of Motor Vehicles started the online database in 2010.

(Updated at 3:25 p.m.) A man has died after a driver hit him on Baron Cameron Avenue near The Spectrum at Reston Town Center last night (Monday).
Police and emergency medical services with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched around 8:22 p.m. to Baron Cameron Avenue at Fountain Drive for a crash where a driver struck a pedestrian, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.
The pedestrian was transported to a hospital with injuries considered life-threatening. The man, identified as Khalid Magan, 37, of Reston, later died, Fairfax County Police Department announced today (Tuesday).
Police said the driver remained at the scene.
Based on a preliminary investigation, detectives believe Magan tried to cross Baron Cameron Avenue around 8 p.m. when the driver of a 2002 Ford-250 pickup truck heading west hit him, according to the FCPD, which says Magan was outside of a crosswalk.
At that intersection, Baron Cameron only has a crosswalk on the east side, and it’s marked by parallel lines without stripes. A narrow grass median with a concrete gutter separates the two eastbound lanes from the westbound lanes, which include two thru lanes, a left-turn lane and a right-turn lane.
“Preliminarily, detectives do not believe speed or alcohol are factors in the crash for the driver,” the FCPD said. “Alcohol is still under investigation for the pedestrian. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.”
Magan is the eighth pedestrian killed in a vehicle crash in Fairfax County this year and the second in October, following a fatal hit-and-run on Richmond Highway on Oct. 6. In addition, a teen was hospitalized with serious injuries by a crash on Route 50 last Thursday (Oct. 19).
At this time in 2022, the county had recorded 16 fatal pedestrian crashes, according to the FCPD. By the end of the year, 32 pedestrians had died, the most since at least 2010.

A teen has suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in a crash on Route 50 near the Mosby neighborhood in West Falls Church.
Police and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to Route 50 (Arlington Blvd) at Annandale Road shortly before 8:30 p.m., according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.
“It looks like there’s a 13-year-old patient that’s unconscious. They are breathing,” a dispatcher told police at 8:28 p.m.
The teen was a pedestrian and has been transported to a hospital, the Fairfax County Police Department said. It’s unclear what vehicle was involved, but police said the driver stayed at the scene.
Eastbound Route 50 has been closed, and police are advising community members to avoid the area.

(Updated at 1:20 p.m.) A pedestrian died last night (Friday) after a hit-and-run crash on Richmond Highway (Route 1) in the Woodlawn area of Mount Vernon.
Police officers were called to Richmond Highway near Brevard Court at 10:10 p.m., followed by emergency medical services with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department around 10:12 p.m.
“Vehicle struck a pedestrian. Pedestrian’s face is bloody and shoes were knocked off,” a dispatcher told police, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.
Eder Machado Aleman, 36, of Fairfax was hit by a driver while attempting to cross Richmond Highway “outside of the crosswalk,” the Fairfax County Police Department said in an update released shortly after noon today (Saturday).
Aleman was transported to a hospital, where he died. There are no crosswalks at Brevard Court or Buckman Road, the closest signalized intersection. The closest crosswalk to the crash site appears to be on the west side of Richmond Highway at Frye Road.
The driver fled the scene, possibly in a white SUV that a witness reported seeing before the crash, the FCPD said. The vehicle was last seen headed south on Richmond Highway, police said on the scanner.
The crash shut down Richmond Highway in both directions from shortly before 10:30 p.m. until around 1:30 a.m. today (Saturday).
“Detectives continue to work to identify the vehicle involved as well as the driver,” the FCPD said. “Speed and alcohol as factors in this crash are still under investigation.”
Based on state data, this is the seventh pedestrian fatality in Fairfax County this year and the third on Richmond Highway, where a motorcyclist was also killed in May. At this time last year, the county had recorded 14 pedestrian deaths.
In total, there were 32 pedestrians killed in the county in 2022, more than any other year since at least 2010.

(Updated at 12:35 p.m.) A pedestrian died last night (Sunday) after being hit by a driver on the Capital Beltway (I-495) near Merrifield, Virginia State Police say.
The state police responded to calls about a pedestrian being struck on a northbound I-495 service road to Route 50 around 9:14 p.m., according to a VSP spokesperson.
Identified as Douglas C. Haskett II, a 55-year-old Ashburn resident, the pedestrian was hit by the driver of a Chevrolet Traverse, who fled the scene. Haskett died at the scene, according to police.
A dispatcher asked for any unit on the Beltway that could “check on a pedestrian walking in the road,” according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.
“There’s people standing on that ramp north to 50,” the dispatcher told the responding troopers.
Troopers shut down the ramp from Gallows Road, reporting that there were “multiple vehicles” on the scene. However, the vehicle responsible for the crash was not present, a trooper told the dispatcher.
At 9:39 p.m., a Fairfax County police officer said they had “received a call from a citizen who believes he might be the hit-and-run driver,” according to the scanner.
“During the course of the crash investigation, state police were notified by Fairfax County Police that they had received a call from the driver of the Chevrolet,” VSP spokesperson Corinne Geller confirmed in an update around 12:20 p.m. today (Monday).
The call came from a parking garage in the Mosaic District. Upon locating the Chevrolet in the garage, troopers arrested the driver — Brian C. Diffell, 46, of Falls Church — and charged him with a felony count of hit-and-run.
“The investigation remains ongoing and in consultation with the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney,” Geller said.

An 80-year-old Vienna resident was charged in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash in McLean’s Kirby Road crosswalk.
Police believe Gamaathige Desoya was trying to make a left turn onto northbound Kirby Road but instead turned into the southbound lanes. The incident happened on August 12 around 6 a.m.
His car struck Brigitte Forster, who was walking along the crosswalk. She died on the scene police said.
Excessive speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, according ot the Fairfax County Police Department.
