The end of September is within sight, which means Oktoberfest season will soon be in full swing.

One of the bigger festivals in the region is the Vienna Oktoberfest, which is organized by the Vienna Business Association and now celebrating its 16th year.

Sunday Morning Bakehouse is now serving its signature croissants and donuts in Tysons.

After giving local residents a preview with occasional pop-ups earlier this year, the bakery officially opened its doors on Sunday (Sept. 21) at 1796 Chain Bridge Road in Heming, the 28-story apartment and retail building in the Scotts Run neighborhood near the McLean Metro station.

Vienna is working to keep body-worn cameras, first implemented with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, in operation after the program’s federal funding expires.

The Capital Improvement Plan, presented to the Vienna Town Council at a work session on Monday, Sept. 15, included a plan to bridge the gap between the funding provided for the body cameras by ARPA and that funding being worked into the police department’s operating budget.

Both of the top federal prosecutors in Virginia resigning within a month of each other, reportedly after facing pressure from the Trump administration, is cause for alarm, Fairfax County’s Democratic supervisors say.

Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay and his Democratic colleagues urged Congress and judges in the Eastern District of Virginia to intervene after interim U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert resigned on Friday (Sept. 19) under circumstances they argued “appear politically motivated, and malicious.”

Family of Man Killed in Woodlawn Seeks Support — “The sister of Jaylin Theodore Hartless says the family is struggling to process the sudden loss of the 21-year-old Alexandria man who was fatally shot Friday morning in Fairfax County’s Woodlawn area.” The family has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral expenses. Kirby Club Successor Now Open — NAJA, the Lebanese restaurant taking over for Kirby Club, opened yesterday (Monday) at the Mosaic District in Merrifield. WTOP Reporter Dies From Cancer — “WTOP business reporter Jeff Clabaugh, whose steady-paced voice conversationally delivered money news to the D.C. region for three decades, has died at 63. Following a yearlong battle with cancer, Clabaugh died Thursday night in his home, with his long-term partner, Russ Rader, at his side.” [WTOP]

Contractor Leases Reston Building — “CACI International Inc. has quietly leased a whole building in Reston just a stone’s throw from its headquarters near Reston Town Center, according to a real estate source and online Fairfax County information. Some existing mobile lounges at Dulles International Airport have been operating since John F. Kennedy was president in the mid-20th century, and with proper care, airport officials hope to keep them in service until almost the middle of the 21st century.

The iconic transportation equipment is a critical part of airport operations and “will remain essential for the next 15 to 20 years,” Thomas Beatty, chief operations officer for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), told the agency’s board of directors last Wednesday (Sept. 17).

A new survey outlines areas where Fairfax pedestrians say they’ve had dangerously close encounters with cars.

The Near Miss and Dangerous Locations Survey is developed by Northern Virginia Families for Safe Streets based on survey data collected between January 2024 and July 2025.
