One of the longest-standing restaurants in Vienna has emerged triumphant from the 2024 NoVA Breakfast Wars.

Vienna Inn was declared the winner yesterday (Tuesday) of the bracket-style competition organized by Northern Virginia Magazine, which invited its readers to vote for their favorite place to grab a morning meal out of 32 selected contenders from around the region.

A mainstay of Maple Avenue since 1960, Vienna Inn told Northern Virginia Magazine that it was “thrilled and honored” by the victory, which came over West Falls Church’s Celebrity Delly — another down-to-earth yet enduring community anchor.

“Thank you to Northern Virginia Magazine and our wonderful customers for your support,” Vienna Inn said in the magazine’s announcement. “Our team takes great pride in serving the best breakfast experience every day!”

Founded by Mike and Mollie Abraham, Vienna Inn occupies a site at 120 Maple Avenue East that previously hosted an ice cream parlor, a drug store and a bar. While best known for its chili dogs, the eatery has a breakfast menu with omelets, hotcakes, sandwiches, and various egg and meat platters.

Like in past years, the business celebrated its 64th anniversary this February with promotions, fundraisers and food and drink specials.

According to Northern Virginia Magazine, the candidates in its NoVA Breakfast Wars were chosen from a breakfast-focused cover story it ran in April 2023, along with recommendations from its food critics and a survey of recent openings.

In addition to Celebrity Delly, Vienna Inn bested Ted’s Bulletin, which can be found at Reston Town Center and the Mosaic District in Merrifield, and the Herndon diner Virginia Kitchen. The Mexican restaurant Anita’s, which has a Vienna location, and Bob & Edith’s, which is working on an expansion to Newington, also made the top four.

Previous editions of Northern Virginia Magazine’s ongoing “NoVA Wars” polls have focused on breweries, wineries, cheesesteak, wings and ice cream. Earlier this year, Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern in Herndon won both the wings and cheesesteak battles, topping Vienna’s Bear Branch Tavern for the former and Celebrity Delly for the latter.
