Capital One Hall announces latest season of ‘Broadway in Tysons’

Good news for anyone turned off by the Trump administration’s overhaul of the Kennedy Center: you don’t have to cross the Potomac River to get a taste of Broadway in the D.C. area.

Yesterday (Monday), Capital One Hall (7750 Capital One Tower Road) unveiled a new slate of shows dominated by 20th-century throwbacks for its fifth “Broadway in Tysons” season.

Families move into new Fair Ridge homeless shelter after closure of temporary Reston site

Fairfax County has completed the initial steps of converting a former hotel into a permanent emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness.

Families began moving into the Fair Ridge Shelter (3997 Fair Ridge Drive) off of West Ox Road in the Fair Oaks area last Wednesday (April 2). The opening came shortly after the county wrapped up its Hypothermia Prevention Program, which provides overnight accommodations throughout the winter, on March 31.

Reston man dies in motorcycle crash off Loudoun County road

A Reston man was killed last week after his motorcycle apparently veered off a rural Loudoun County road.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to the 20000 block of Airmont Road in Bluemont last Thursday (April 3) afternoon for a motorcycle crash, according to a press release.

‘Suspicious’ trash bag dumped on Vienna Police’s door step

Trash bags and dirt bikes were among the “highlights” of the Town of Vienna Police Department’s past week.

Vienna police cited an 83-year-old man from Dunn Loring for illegal dumping on Wednesday (April 3) after they identified him as the source of a “suspicious black trash bag” dropped off at the police station (215 Center Street South) the previous morning, according to a recap of the week from March 28 through April 3.

JUST IN: Man sentenced to prison for fatally shooting stranger in Woodlawn

A Mount Vernon man will serve more than three decades in prison after being convicted of murder for a 2022 fatal shooting in Woodlawn.

Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge David Oblon sentenced Kyjuan Trott-McLean, 45, this morning (Friday) to 40 years in prison for second-degree murder and an additional three years for using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Report: Federal contractors in Tysons, Reston to lay off workers

Contractors in Fairfax County appear to be feeling the effects of the Trump administration’s ongoing campaign to slash federal funding.

Mitre Corporation will lay off 442 employees primarily at its Tysons headquarters campus on June 3, while Reston-based Leidos will eliminate 29 workers based in its Lincolnia office, effective May 30, according to notices that both companies filed this week with the Virginia Department of Workforce Development and Advancement.

People to rappel ‘over the edge’ of Reston Station office building for fundraiser

Over the next two days, residents and visitors at Reston Station will be treated to the sight of people rappelling down a 17-story office building for charity.

The Google-anchored building at 1900 Reston Station Blvd will be the site of an Over the Edge fundraiser tomorrow (Saturday) to benefit the National Military Intelligence Foundation (NMIF), a Clifton-based nonprofit that supports national security and intelligence workers through professional development and student scholarships.

NOW: Vehicle catches fire after crashing outside McLean Starbucks, road blocked

Old Dominion Drive was blocked for hours after an SUV crashed into a power pole and caught fire in McLean this afternoon (Thursday).

Police and firefighters responded to the Chesterbrook Shopping Center around 5 p.m. for the crash, which happened near the Starbucks store and brought down power lines, according to scanner traffic.

Reston National Golf Course owner takes two-pronged approach in push to add housing

The owners of Reston National Golf Course have teed up another redevelopment proposal, but this time, with public opposition expected to remain high, they’re considering a backup plan that would involve renovations and more limited housing.

Property owner War Horse Cities enlisted the developer NVR to nominate the 168-acre golf course at 11875 Sunrise Valley Drive for a Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan amendment that would allow housing on part of the site, while turning the rest into publicly accessible recreational or open space.
