More housing approved for McLean from office redevelopment, new subdivision

McLean’s housing supply will expand in the coming years as a result of two very different development proposals approved last week by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

The board voted unanimously on March 17 to rezone the McLean Office Center at 1368 Beverly Road from a commercial district to a planned residential mixed-use district, paving the way for a 56-unit apartment building to replace the existing pair of two-story office buildings.

Alcorn suggests revisiting sign brightness levels after Reston Row complaints

Comstock Companies has received a green light from Fairfax County to install new signs around its mostly completed Reston Row project near the Wiehle Metro station.

However, the Board of Supervisors’ vote on March 17 to approve revisions to a sign plan for the development might not spell the end of discussions about what kinds of signs should be permitted, as the county seeks to balance the needs of its growing commercial centers with more traditionally suburban neighborhoods.

First-ever McLean Restaurant Week to offer promotions next month

After seeing the success of similar campaigns in Vienna and Fairfax City, among other locations, McLean is planning a restaurant week of its own.

Nearly two dozen restaurants have signed up so far to participate in the inaugural McLean Restaurant Week, which will take place on April 12-19.

Under Armour is gearing up for a relaunch at Tysons Corner Center, which also recently bid farewell to a couple of prominent retail tenants.

Operating out of a temporary location near Bloomingdale’s since late 2024, Under Armour will unveil a new concept at the mall on Thursday (March 26) that’s intended to draw in a younger generation of athletes.

Volunteers invited to plant trees, clear invasive species in Reston for Arbor Day

Officially, Arbor Day won’t be recognized in Virginia until the end of April, but Reston Association will get a head start on observing the occasion with a volunteer event at the end of March.

The homeowners’ association is inviting community members to help clean up and enhance some of its natural areas next Tuesday (March 31) from 9:30 to noon.

A new look is in store for the water tower that looms over the Route 123 and Route 7 interchange in Tysons.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted last week (March 17) to support the Tysons Community Alliance’s plan to replace the existing sign on the water tower with an updated “Tysons” logo introduced last spring.

Multiple people attacked by rabid cat in Huntington area

Another rabid cat has been identified in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County.

The Fairfax County Health Department is urging community members to reach out if they or a pet might’ve come into contact with the cat, which reportedly attacked “multiple” people last Thursday afternoon (March 19) in the Huntington area.

NOW: Fallen tree takes out power line in Reston, closing Hunter Mill Road

Hunter Mill Road is temporarily closed, and hundreds of Reston residents have lost power after a fallen tree took out a power line.

“Officers are on scene at the intersection of Hunter Mill Road and Sunrise Valley Drive for a tree that fell onto a power line, causing sparking in the roadway,” the Fairfax County Police Department said.

Free Little Art Gallery coming to Richmond Highway this spring

A Free Little Art Gallery (FLAG) is coming to a shopping center on Richmond Highway this spring, kicking off what organizers hope will be a proliferation of the boxes along the corridor.

The FLAG will be installed by the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (SFDC) at 12:30 p.m. on April 8 in the Mount Vernon Plaza Parklette (7698 Richmond Highway) in Hybla Valley.

Easter egg hunt, seasonal cocktails usher in spring at Capital One Center

Capital One Center in Tysons will be hopping with activity this spring, highlighted by the return of its “ultimate” Easter Egg Hunt early next month.

Approximately 3,000 eggs will be strewn across the Great Lawn at The Perch for kids to collect during the popular event, which is set to take place on Saturday, April 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
