Centreville movie theater acquired by real estate company

A longstanding movie theater in Centreville has changed hands, raising the prospect that it could be redeveloped in the future.

Finmarc Management, a commercial real estate firm based in Bethesda, Maryland, announced on Friday (Nov. 21) that it has acquired Cinemark Centreville (6201 Multiplex Drive) and Xscape Theatres (7710 Matapeake Business Drive) in Prince George’s County for a combined $15.1 million.

Workers and visitors at Capital One Center can now take a more direct route to and from the McLean Metro station.

After years of planning and construction, a new entrance with bicycle parking has opened on the station’s north side facing Capital One Drive, providing easier access to the development on Capital One’s Tysons campus, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) announced last week (Nov. 17).

Sweetgreen sets new opening date for McLean restaurant

Sweetgreen has settled on a new opening date for its restaurant in McLean, one that will hopefully stick.

After canceling a previously scheduled Nov. 11 launch, the fast-casual salad chain now anticipates opening its doors at 6220 Old Dominion Drive in Chesterbrook Shopping Center on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Virginia officials promise traffic relief with new I-495 toll lanes opening this weekend

After more than three years of construction, the new Capital Beltway toll lanes in McLean will welcome their first drivers on Sunday (Nov. 23), just in time for next week’s Thanksgiving travel rush.

Though the start of tolling operations has been delayed by a day due to expected rain tonight (Friday), Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay and other officials gathered this morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in anticipation of the occasion at the Hyatt Regency hotel at Tysons Corner Center.

Woman charged with reckless driving for I-66 crash that injured trooper

A woman from Marshall, Virginia, has been charged with reckless driving after allegedly crashing into a Virginia State trooper on I-66 this morning (Friday).

The trooper was responding to another crash involving a tractor trailer and a “passenger vehicle” when the incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. on eastbound I-66 near the Capital Beltway (I-495) in Dunn Loring, according to the state police.

Vending machines supporting local charities return to Tysons mall

Vending machines that encourage charitable giving are returning to Tysons Corner Center just in time for the holidays.

The Light the World Giving Machines, which are sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, will be unveiled outside the AMC Theatres (7850 Tysons Corner Center) at noon tomorrow (Saturday) and continue operations through Jan. 4.

JUST IN: Man charged with assault after multiple incidents around Reston

Fairfax County police believe one man is behind a series of assault and exposure incidents that have occurred near the Washington & Old Dominion Trail in Reston over the past month.

Koby Berry, a 27-year-old Reston resident, was arrested on Nov. 15 after he was allegedly caught on video touching a woman “inappropriately” in a store at North Point Village Center earlier that week, the Fairfax County Police Department announced today (Thursday).

Fairfax City seeks public input on new 20-year waste management plan

Fairfax City is seeking community input on how it handles trash and recycling.

The city will hold a public meeting tonight (Thursday) from 7-8 p.m. at Katherine Johnson Middle School (3801 Jermantown Road) on its Solid Waste Management Plan, which is undergoing a state-mandated update and will guide trash, recycling and composting practices over the next 20 years.

Students and staff at Brookfield Elementary School in Chantilly have been evacuated in response to a gas leak.

Units with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the school at 4200 Lees Corner Road around 10:18 a.m. for a “hazardous material emergency,” according to scanner traffic.

Fairfax County taps new homeless shelter operators, begins planning for future

Fairfax County has identified new operators for three of its homeless shelters after cutting ties with New Hope Housing in September.

The Fairfax City-based nonprofit Shelter House has taken over the Eleanor Kennedy Shelter (9155 Richmond Highway) in Fort Belvoir as well as Mondloch House and Place, an emergency shelter and permanent supportive housing site (3510 Lockheed Blvd) in Groveton.
