Vienna accepts $3M from Navy Federal to jump-start work on aquatics center

The Town of Vienna will soon dive headfirst into planning for its potential aquatics and fitness center with some financial assistance from Navy Federal Credit Union.

A majority of Vienna Town Council members agreed on Nov. 10 to authorize an agreement that will allow staff to accept a $3 million advance from Navy Federal for hiring a project manager and architectural firm, fulfilling the company’s offer last year to help fund the facility’s design.

Reston Association moves to end enforcement of Lake Anne AC unit ban

After more than a month of uncertainty, Lake Anne residents received clarity last week on their options for cooling their homes next summer.

The Reston Association (RA) Board of Directors signaled at its meeting last Thursday (Nov. 13) that it will declare the longstanding ban on individual air-conditioning units in the Reston Deed no longer in effect, starting in mid-December.

After its courting of professional cricket fizzled, George Mason University has scored an entirely different pro sports league.

George Mason Stadium on the university’s Fairfax campus will serve as the new home of Old Glory DC, the region’s Major League Rugby team, hosting all regular season and playoff matches starting in 2026.

Escalating costs have convinced an advisory board that Fairfax County should scale back its ambitions for funding transportation projects with special taxes collected from Reston property owners.

Uniqlo is set to unveil its new, expanded store at Tysons Corner Center tomorrow (Friday).

Doors will officially open at 10 a.m. following a roughly 10-minute-long taiko drum performance, kicking off a full weekend of festivities, the Japanese clothing retailer announced.

For any drivers who’ve endured bumper-to-bumper traffic on Chain Bridge Road or pedestrians wishing they could walk from Oakton Shopping Center to the Oakton Library without risking life and limb, an opportunity has arrived to contribute to a potential solution.

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) is inviting members of the public to share their ideas for addressing traffic congestion and safety issues in Oakton at a community workshop that will be held tonight (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m. at Oakton High School (2900 Sutton Road).

Two people were injured in a major house fire in the Wolf Trap area this morning (Thursday) amid a warning of elevated fire danger for Northern Virginia.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 1900 block of Hunter Mill Road around 10:13 a.m. for the fire at a single-family home. Upon arriving, responders observed “a large volume of fire,” per scanner traffic, and smoke from the blaze could reportedly be seen from Tysons.

Churasuko — the latest venture from restauranteur Derek Liu, who founded Gyuzo Japanese BBQ and Uzu Revolving Sushi in Rockville, Maryland — anticipates opening in early December on the ground floor of the Lumen apartments at 1755 Tysons Central Street.

Two pedestrians have died in as many days as a result of crashes on Fairfax County roads.

The Fairfax County Police Department is currently searching for the driver who struck a pedestrian — identified as Steven Davis, 41, of no fixed address — in Annandale on Monday (Nov. 10).
