One man was killed this morning (Friday) after being struck by a train in Burke.

Shortly after 9 a.m., the Fairfax County Police Department responded to the 10400 block of Premier Court — near Burke Centre station — after the collision was reported.

A Virginia State Police trooper will not face criminal charges after a teen was shot with his gun in Kings Park West earlier this year.

There is no evidence supporting the idea that the trooper shot the teen. Rather, the teen appears to have disarmed the trooper during a scuffle and accidentally shot himself, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano announced yesterday (Thursday).

Though the peak season for chilly treats has passed, Meadows Frozen Custard still intends to open its new Reston location by the end of 2025.

After initially aiming for an early summer launch, the frozen custard shop is now eyeing early December to officially open its doors at 11130 South Lakes Drive in the South Lakes Village Center.

The Herndon Police Department is lobbying local lawmakers to allow the installation of red light cameras across the town.

“We want to make sure that we’re staying up with technology and we’re leveraging technology to work for us, because we want to be self-sufficient as a police department,” Herndon Police Chief Steven Pihonak told the town council last week (Nov. 5).

All three of Fairfax County’s Congressional representatives say they will not support a legislative deal advanced late yesterday (Sunday) by the U.S. Senate to reopen the federal government.

Without a guarantee that health care subsidies will be extended, the latest effort by lawmakers to break the record-long stalemate over funding is a non-starter, Rep. James Walkinshaw, who’s in his first term representing Virginia’s 11th District, said in a statement.

Discount grocery retailer Aldi plans to open its newest Fairfax County supermarket later this year.

The forthcoming grocery store will officially open its doors at 6230 Rolling Road in the West Springfield Shopping Mall on Thursday, Dec. 4, Aldi announced on Nov. 19.

Nearly two months after Krop’s Crops was devastated by a fire, its owners are hopeful they’ll be able to recover, thanks to an outpouring of support from the community.

The Sept. 9-10 fire consumed a one-story barn and the main marketplace building at the family-owned produce farm in Great Falls (11110 Georgetown Pike). No injuries were reported, but everything in storage, including its antique collectibles and Christmas sleigh, was lost, co-owner Andy Krop says.
