Six months after being defeated by Rep. Gerry Connolly in what turned out to be his final election, the most recent Republican nominee for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District will return to the campaign trail.

Mike Van Meter, who garnered almost 33% of the vote in the 2024 general election against the longtime Democratic incumbent, confirmed to FFXnow that he plans to run for the seat in the 2026 midterm elections.

Alexandria woman charged with Annandale bank robbery

An Alexandria woman has been arrested in connection with a bank robbery that occurred in Annandale on Monday (April 28).

The Fairfax County Police Department alleges that Vicky Vien Phung, 36, took just over $1,000 from the Capital One Bank at 7030 Little River Turnpike before fleeing.

Brio Italian Grille at Fair Oaks Mall appears to have permanently closed

One dine-in restaurant at Fair Oaks Mall seems to have permanently closed its doors.

Brio Italian Grille, housed near Cheesecake Factory and the mall’s northeast entrance, said in a sign posted to its front door earlier this month that it has “temporarily closed,” apologizing for the inconvenience and thanking guests for their patronage.

FCPD: Suspected driver in fatal Route 1 hit-and-run crash arrested

Local law enforcement has arrested a man accused of striking and killing a woman in a hit-and-run crash earlier this year.

Reginald Brown, 42, of Fairfax was arrested last Wednesday (April 23) and charged with a felony hit and run, stemming from the fatal Jan. 29 crash, the Fairfax County Police Department said.

Police: Maryland homicide suspect arrested in Annandale after traffic stop

A driver who allegedly made an illegal U-turn in Annandale last Thursday (April 24) turned out to be wanted for homicide.

Cameron Alexander Anderson was taken into custody at the intersection of Medford Drive and Lucerne Lane around 8:25 p.m., the Fairfax County Police Department said.

BREAKING: Rep. Gerry Connolly will not seek reelection

Rep. Gerry Connolly, who has represented Virginia’s 11th district for nearly 20 years, will not seek another term in Congress, he announced today (Monday).

The 75-year-old congressman, who was diagnosed with esophageal cancer late last year, has seen a re-emergence of the illness, according to a statement.

Standoff in Huntington leads to arrest of robbery suspect

After an hours-long standoff, law enforcement arrested a robbery suspect Thursday in Fairfax County’s Huntington neighborhood.

Anthony Edwards, of Maryland, was located in the attic of a vacant home in the 2400 block of Byrd Lane around 7:30 p.m., less than a mile from the convenience store he is accused of burglarizing.

A local college student who failed an exam is accused of threatening to shoot his professor in that class.

The 20-year-old Springfield man, who is a student at Northern Virginia Community College’s Annandale campus, was arrested April 18 after bombarding his math professor with numerous intimidating emails, according to court documents.

A Manassas man who fled Inova Fairfax Hospital last February while getting treatment has admitted to poorly choosing his getaway vehicle.

Rickey Ramone Lowe Jr. pleaded guilty to one count of grand larceny on Wednesday, stemming from his theft of a private transport ambulance at the hospital.

BREAKING: Two FCPD officers shot during Fair Oaks traffic stop, gunman killed

Two Fairfax County police officers are wounded and a local man is dead after shots were fired during a traffic stop in the Fair Oaks neighborhood Wednesday.

Both officers sustained non-life threatening injuries in the incident, which occurred around 2:45 p.m. in the 4000 block of Majestic Lane — just outside Greenbriar Town Center.
