Widening starts this weekend for Fairfax County Parkway near Fairfax Station

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced today that it’s kicking off widening work on two miles of Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) near Fairfax Station starting this weekend.

The widening will run from Route 123 (Ox Road) to Nomes Court/Ladues End Lane. The goal is reduced congestion along with the installation of a shared-use path and a grade-separated cyclist/pedestrian crossing, along with other improvements.

Ramp closures and detours in place for I-495 interchange in McLean

Ramp closures and detours are in place during overnight hours this week around the I-495 and George Washington Memorial Parkway interchange.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) said ramp closures and detours will be in place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. this week.

Man arrested for sexual battery inside Target near Reston Town Center

The Fairfax County Police Department said a man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a victim inside a Target (12197 Sunset Hills Road) near the Reston Town Center.

Police said in a release today that the incident took place on April 14 around 1:40 p.m.

A two-day pop-up event is coming to the Mosaic District early next month.

The annual Moasic Spring Market, run by URBNmarket, is scheduled for Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Mosaic District (2905 District Avenue).

Two killed in Lake Barcroft crash Sunday night

A woman and her husband were killed in a crash near Lake Barcroft last night.

The Fairfax County Police Department said it was a single-vehicle crash. According to scanner traffic, the vehicle crashed into a house and caught on fire.

George Mason University contacts law enforcement after student posts essay on political violence

George Mason University said it has referred a student’s essay to state and federal law enforcement after it sparked concern online.

While GMU did not respond to a FFXnow request to specify which essay, a social media post from GMU comes after a student’s Substack post titled ‘When Must We Kill Them?‘ went viral in conservative circles.

George Mason University considers cuts to diversity programs under pressure from Trump administration

After years of championing its diversity, George Mason University revealed this week that it has cut two DEI positions and is considering further eliminations of diversity programs, Virginia Mercury first reported.

Virginia Mercury reported that the Academic Programs, Diversity, and University Community Committee considered a resolution yesterday to comply with the Trump administration’s crackdown on universities with diversity initiatives under threat of losing federal funding.

Capital One Center is hosting an “ultimate Easter Egg Hunt” at The Perch, a 3-acre sky park at 1803 Capital One Drive — 11 stories up with a sweeping view of Tysons.

Man charged with abduction and attempted sexual assault in Seven Corners

A Falls Church man has been arrested following a reported abduction and attempted sexual assault early this morning (Wednesday).

According to a release from the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), a woman said she was forced into a vehicle at the 6100 block of Arlington Boulevard, near a popular Target.
