Longtime food critic Tom Sietsema wrapped up his 25-year run at the Washington Post last week with the release of his final fall dining guide.

Sietsema’s survey of the “40 Best Restaurants in and Around D.C.” is dominated by the District, which is home to all of the top-five ranked entries. But five Fairfax eateries still made the cut, along with one that will soon set up shop in the area.

    A 24/7 pet emergency room that allows owners to stay with their furry and feathery friends through all stages of treatment opened its 114th location this week in Chantilly.

    VEG ER for Pets, located at 5009 Westone Plaza, offers an open floor plan with no lobby, and immediate contact with the medical team. Owners are able to follow their pets throughout treatment and have the option to observe procedures such as surgeries. Overnight stays for hospitalizations are also offered at no additional charge.

    Though it may be small solace for not knowing when their next paycheck may come, a night of music or theater could become at least a temporary escape for the thousands of workers affected by the ongoing federal government shutdown.

    A week after the first-ever Celebration of the Arts took over Capital One Center in Tysons, Fairfax County’s Mason District will throw its own party championing the local arts community.

    The inaugural Mason District Arts Festival will bring artist booths, live entertainment, a children’s play area and food trucks to the Eileen Garnett Civic Space (7200 Columbia Pike) in Annandale this Saturday (Oct. 11) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.


    Eyewear retailer Warby Parker will soon be the latest addition to Reston Town Center.

    The brand’s newest store, located at 11936 Market Street, is expected to open later this month on Saturday, Oct. 18, the company recently announced. First-day shoppers will receive a complimentary tote bag while supplies last.
