A combined basketball and futsal court is set to open next Thursday, Oct. 3 at Stratton Woods Park (2431 Fox Mill Road) in Reston.
Construction on the court began in August. The $229,000 project is being supported by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA), Volkswagen Group of America and the Great Outdoors Fund, a nonprofit that aims to expand access to recreational amenities.

The inaugural “Near Miss/Dangerous Location” summary report from the Fairfax chapter of Northern Virginia Families for Safe Streets (NOVA FSS) found that 90% of the incidents recorded by pedestrians and cyclists since 2020 were recurring events — a higher rate than in Arlington (82%) or Alexandria (74%), the two other jurisdictions analyzed by the volunteer-run nonprofit.

Driver Hospitalized in Richmond Highway Crash — A man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after crashing on Route 1 at Janna Lee Avenue in Mount Vernon yesterday (Thursday). Baby Reunited with Family After Carjacking — “The mother of a 4-month-old child has been reunited with her baby after the child was taken during a carjacking in Fairfax County. Reston Company Raided by FBI Involved in Price-Fixing Case — The FBI has yet to confirm what prompted its recent raid of Carahsoft’s Reston headquarters, but there has been “speculation about possible — but thus far unsubstantiated — links to an ongoing court case that was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland last year and involved efforts to defraud government agencies.” [Government Executive]
Uyghur Restaurant Eyes Falls Church Expansion — Dolan Uyghur, which can currently be found in D.C. and Chantillly, “plans to expand further into Northern Virginia with a new Falls Church location. Reston Contractor to Help Build Lunar Rover — “Lunar Outpost in Golden, Colorado, announced this week that Leidos has joined its effort to create a new class of lunar terrain vehicles to be used by astronauts on Artemis missions. Some local Donald Trump supporters will rev up their engines this Sunday (Sept. 29) as a display of enthusiasm for the Republican presidential nominee.
Organized by activists from the D.C. area’s Vietnamese community, the Northern Virginia Car Rally for Trump will be “an unforgettable day of patriotism and support,” according to an event notice posted on the Fairfax County Republican Committee’s website.
A plan to redevelop Van Buren Office Park in Herndon into a mostly residential development could be the first test case of a soon-to-be established zoning district in the Town of Herndon.
Rooney Properties, owner of the office park at 250 Exchange Place, wants to replace the five existing office buildings and surface parking with a 400-unit multi-family residential building and garage as well as 66 townhouse units.
A historical marker now stands in McLean’s Clemyjontri Park as a monument to the site’s past as a center of social and spiritual activity for the local Black community.
