Homeowners in the City of Fairfax who want to allow elderly parents to move in, obtain rental income or perhaps even install a luxury “She Shed” can now add another dwelling on their property with less bureaucratic hassle.
The city council voted 4-2 on Tuesday (July 28) to approve code amendments permitting detached accessory dwelling units (ADUs) by right within city boundaries.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on July 14 adopted a roadmap to guide future development of Lorton’s core area over the next 20 to 50 years.
Adoption of the Lorton Core Study represented nearly a decade of work. The adopted plan seeks a mix of uses with a focus on walkability and parks.

The Fairfax County Planning Commission recommended approval earlier this month of a development option for 70 townhomes on a 3.5-acre site on the western fringe of the Wiehle-Reston East Transit Station Area.
Expected to be considered by the Board of Supervisors on Aug. 25, the comprehensive plan amendment requested by developer Stewart Investment Partners would allow the townhouses to replace a five-story office building at 1850 Roland Clarke Place that dates to the early 1980s
The Fairfax County Police Department has released two still images from the body camera of an officer who fired his gun on Tuesday (July 28) at a suspect he was pursuing, after the man allegedly attempted to disarm him.
The first image appears to depict a man in a bush — identified by police as Nehemia Fuentes Banegas, of Annandale — holding the officer’s gun. The second shows two utility knives on the ground.

President Donald Trump officially unveiled his sought-after plan to renovate Dulles International Airport this afternoon (Wednesday) at an Oval Office event with U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
