The long-awaited trial for a Herndon man accused of orchestrating the killings of his wife and another man has been postponed once again.

Brendan Banfield’s trial is now scheduled to begin Jan. 13, with Fairfax Circuit Court Chief Judge Penney S. Azcarate granting a continuance in court yesterday (Wednesday). The trial had been been scheduled to start Oct. 20 (Monday), having been previously continued earlier this year.

A man remains hospitalized after being struck by a driver near Arrowbrook Centre in Herndon late last week.

Fairfax County police officers and medics were dispatched around 7:22 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 3) for a crash involving a driver in a 2012 Nissan Versa hitting a pedestrian near the intersection of Centreville Road and Woodland Park Road just south of the Dulles Toll Road.

One driver was killed yesterday (Sunday) night after colliding with oncoming traffic in the Fort Belvoir area.

The crash occurred shortly before 7:40 p.m. at the intersection of Jeff Todd Way and Telegraph Road when a northbound Cadillac driver crossed over a median on Jeff Todd Way and hit a southbound Toyota Highlander head-on.

Derrick Burroughs, 40, was arrested and charged yesterday (Tuesday) with two counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of indecent liberties with a child by a custodian, the Fairfax County Police Department announced this morning.

Two bicyclists were injured on the same day in separate crashes at Washington & Old Dominion Trail crossings in Fairfax County.

Officers were first dispatched on Sunday (Sept. 28) around 10:28 a.m. to the 2300 block of Cedar Lane in Dunn Loring for a crash involving “a vehicle versus a bicyclist,” according to scanner traffic. A dispatcher told responders that a medic would be required.

A Fairfax man has been charged after accidentally firing a gun inside a Legato residence, killing a woman.

Richard Huynh, 31, was apparently securing his firearm in a gun box on the third floor of a home on Friday (Sept. 26) when the weapon discharged, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

Three different people are facing criminal charges in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month in Woodlawn.

According to police, Jaylin Hartless, a 21-year-old Alexandria resident, was found with gunshot wounds to his upper body on Sept. 19 after officers responded to the 3400 block of Buckman Road around 4:45 a.m. for a report of someone breaking into a vehicle.
