The Fairfax County Police Department has wrapped up the first “wave” of its now-annual campaign cracking down on traffic violations.

Launched on March 17 in partnership with the Virginia State Police (VSP), the 2025 Road Shark campaign aims to deter aggressive driving and reduce crashes by boosting enforcement in areas known to be problematic and promoting traffic safety through social media, educational events and community outreach.

A man who was hit by a car driver while riding a scooter in Mount Vernon last night (Tuesday) remains hospitalized in critical condition, police say.

Officers and medics responded to Mount Vernon Highway at Drew Court around 7:54 p.m. yesterday for a crash that the dispatcher initially said involved a pedestrian and a driver who fled the scene, according to scanner traffic.

Two teenagers accused of ramming a vehicle through the doors of a Newington gun store before fleeing with nearly two dozen stolen firearms have been arrested.

Both 16 years old, the juveniles are believed to have been part of a three-person crew that burglarized Dominion Defense at 7200 Fullerton Road, Suite 2 around 1:30 a.m. today (Monday), swiping 21 firearms — 19 long guns and two handguns — from the store, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

A missing Fairfax County teen was spotted earlier this week in Fredericksburg, local officials announced this morning (Friday).

Fasihullah Safar, 16, was seen “trespassing” on the grounds of James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg on Wednesday (March 19), the city’s schools and police said.

Police set up a barricade at the CIA headquarters in McLean this morning (Wednesday) in response to a possibly armed man who appears to have been experiencing a mental health crisis.

Fairfax County police were dispatched shortly before 10 a.m. to assist the CIA police. Responders described a man with a gun to his head on a bench outside the facility’s security gate, according to the police scanner.

A teenager believed to be behind more than 50 graffiti incidents in Burke was caught this week by Fairfax County police.

Responding to the 9500 block of Burke Road for multiple reports of vandalized property around 11:20 p.m. last night (Thursday), officers located a 16-year-old suspect who was covered in spray paint, police said.

An Alexandria man was arrested last weekend after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault a woman in Hybla Valley.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, the woman was walking in the area in the early morning of Sunday, March 9 “when an unknown man approached her in a vehicle.”


Countywide

More than a decade after it started exploring a program, Fairfax County is finally ready to introduce school bus cameras designed to catch illegally passing drivers.

The county government and Fairfax County Public Schools will install stop-arm camera systems on 50 buses for the program’s initial launch, which will begin with a 30-day warning period on April 9.

A man from Bailey’s Crossroads has been convicted of hate crimes for plotting a potential mass shooting at a church in Prince William County.

Following a four-day trial, a federal jury in Alexandria found Rui Jiang guilty yesterday (Thursday) of attempting to obstruct congregants of Park Valley Church in Haymarket from exercising their religious beliefs, using a firearm in connection to a violent crime, and sending online threats.
