Police have made arrests in connection to two different Springfield-area shootings earlier this month.

Suspects in both the Feb. 6 incident in the 7600 block of Cork Glen Way and a Feb. 13 incident at Springfield Town Center have been taken into custody, the Fairfax County Police Department recently announced.

A pedestrian suffered critical injuries in a crash that occurred this evening (Friday) in the heart of downtown McLean.

Police and units with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched around 6:10 p.m. to the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and Beverly Road for the crash, according to scanner traffic.

A 2,300-mile trek by Buddhist monks advocating for unity and compassion will soon enter Fairfax County.

The Walk for Peace is currently scheduled to arrive in Lorton at Richmond Highway and Furnace Road on Sunday (Feb. 8) around 8 a.m., according to the Fairfax County Police Department, which will provide an escort for the pilgrimage while it’s in the county’s borders.

Two juveniles have been arrested in connection to the shooting of a man in Springfield earlier this afternoon (Friday).

The two suspects were taken into custody less than a mile away from the 7600 block of Cork Glen Way, where the shooting was reported, just after 2 p.m.

One man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash this afternoon (Friday) after striking a police cruiser stopped at a traffic light in Braddock.

The 57-year-old man was driving east in a Toyota Camry when he struck the Fairfax County Police Department vehicle around 1:09 p.m. at the intersection of Braddock Road and Prestwick Drive, police said.

Fairfax County’s independent police auditor has recommended that the role of police officers on mental health crisis-related calls be reconsidered.

Richard Schott, who has served as the police auditor since the role was created in 2017, suggested the county reevaluate how it approaches behavioral health calls as part of his review of a fatal shooting by police in Reston in September 2024.

At least three people in Fairfax County have died this week in the aftermath of Winter Storm Fern and the extreme cold continuing to grip the D.C. region.

The Fairfax County Police Department says its officers have responded to “several” CPR calls for people experiencing heart troubles in recent days, including three cases where the person died.

A wrongful death lawsuit against the former Fairfax County police officer who fatally shot Timothy Johnson outside Tysons Corner Center in February 2023 appears to be headed toward a settlement.

Fairfax County has agreed to pay Johnson’s mother, Melissa Johnson, $1.1 million to settle her claims against former Fairfax County Police Department Sgt. Wesley Shifflett, according to court documents.

A child in McLean is safe and sound after getting caught in a culvert while playing in the snow this afternoon (Monday), the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FCFRD) says.

Firefighters responded to the 1900 block of MacArthur Drive around 4:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a trapped child.

The National Weather Service continues to pile on alerts for the potentially massive snowstorm barreling toward the D.C. area.

The agency has now upgraded a previously announced winter storm watch for the region, including Fairfax County, into a Winter Storm Warning that’s scheduled to take effect at 11 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) and remain in place until 4 a.m. Monday (Jan. 26).
