One of baking’s biggest brands is bringing its pop-up shop to Fairfax Corner.

Spearheaded by King Arthur Baking Company, the store will open Monday (Sept. 16) as a one-stop shop for a wide range of baking needs. Many of the brand’s products — including 27 different flours and 86 baking mixes — will be available, along with other ingredients, tools and more.

Vienna Inn was declared the winner yesterday (Tuesday) of the bracket-style competition organized by Northern Virginia Magazine, which invited its readers to vote for their favorite place to grab a morning meal out of 32 selected contenders from around the region.

Time is running out for Vienna residents to grab a giant cookie from MidnighTreats without having to leave town or pay a shipping fee.

The bakery at 167 Glyndon Street SE will close for good after this Saturday (Sept. 7), less than two years after opening in owner and founder Johnny Nguyen’s hometown. MidnighTreats announced the closure last Friday (Aug. 30) in an email to members of its rewards program.

Reston Association’s summer camps have donated over 1,000 pounds of cans for a local food pantry with a “Cans from Campers” food drive.

Over nine weeks, the kids and teens participating in Reston Camps — which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year — collected a total of 1,120 pounds of cans to benefit South Lakes High School’s food pantry, according to RA Recreation Manager Katherine Caffrey.

More than 30 Fairfax County restaurants will participate in the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington’s Summer Restaurant Week, which runs from Monday, Aug. 12 through Sunday, Aug. 18.

The food pantry run by South Lakes High School’s PTSA has collected 2 million pounds of food and toiletries to help local students and their families.

The parents, staff and other volunteers who operate the pantry achieved the milestone during their most recent distribution event held last Thursday (July 18) at the Reston school (11400 South Lakes Drive).

A Reston-based national food brand and multiple nonprofits are distributing thousands of pounds of food to combat food insecurity in Fairfax County and the broader Northern Virginia region.

Last week, the American canned seafood company StarKist, the D.C.-based nonprofit Feed the Children and Reston nonprofit Cornerstones announced they collected over 100,000 pounds of food during their third annual Summer Food Rally on June 6 in Sterling.
