Fairfax County is considering a number of upgrades on Georgetown Pike to make a trip to the library less hazardous for pedestrians.

The proposed improvements will be presented by the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) at a community meeting next Thursday, Jan. 30. Held at the Great Falls Grange (9818 Georgetown Pike), the meeting is scheduled to last an hour from 7-8 p.m.

A driver was critically injured in a crash this morning (Friday) that has completely shut down Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) near Colvin Run Mill Park.

Fairfax County police officers and Fire and Rescue responders were dispatched to eastbound Leesburg Pike at Serenity Woods Lane in Great Falls around 9:20 a.m. for a two-vehicle crash, according to scanner traffic.

Fairfax County police believe a man killed in a car crash on Georgetown Pike this weekend may have been speeding.

Officers were called to the 8600 block of Georgetown Pike in Great Falls at 6:54 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 14) after Ederson Lima Gislon, 40, of Maryland veered off the roadway in a 2024 BMW M8 and hit a tree, the Fairfax County Police Department said yesterday.

Great Falls Park has resolved to stop accepting cash as payment for its entry fees in the new year.

The National Park Service announced yesterday (Monday) that it will require visitors to the park at 9200 Old Dominion Drive to pay their entrance fees with a credit or debit card or by electronic means starting on Jan. 1, 2025.

The Great Falls Citizens Association (GFCA) is voicing strong objections to safety improvements proposed by the Virginia Department of Transportation for Walker Road, arguing that the plans could make the rural roadway more hazardous rather than safer.

VDOT released an assessment in October of the 2-mile stretch connecting Colvin Run Road to Georgetown Pike in Great Falls. The report recommends several safety improvements, including clearing vegetation, installing new signage and replacing the one-lane bridge over Piney Run with a two-lane structure.

An instructional assistant at Langley High School in McLean was arrested last week after a student allegedly saw him masturbating in a classroom.

During school hours on Friday (Oct. 11), David Scalea, a 40-year-old resident of Great Falls, “began inappropriately touching himself underneath his desk” in a classroom, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
