Russia House in Herndon is set to rebrand as a French restaurant this month.

Owners Ali and Homeyra Darugar recently announced on Facebook that the establishment’s final day after 32 years as Russia House will be tonight (Tuesday, July 9). However, they assured patrons this was “not a goodbye.”

A new fast food operator appears to be taking over the former Burger King adjacent to the Hunters Woods Village Center in Reston.

It’s currently unclear what will replace the now-vacant building at 2270 Hunters Woods Plaza, where Burger King shuttered last year.

The daytime eatery First Watch will welcome July by unveiling its newest location in the Fairfax area.

The chain is set to open in Fair Lakes at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 1. At 7,668 square feet, the former TGI Friday’s at 12249 Fair Lakes Promenade Drive is First Watch’s biggest restaurant yet, boasting a spacious interior and an outdoor patio that can seat over 200 people combined.

A new Japanese restaurant has opened its doors in the Town of Vienna, complete with an all-you-can-eat sushi bar.

Sushi Oishii is currently in its soft opening phase after starting to serve customers at 234 Maple Avenue East in the evening of May 17. It took over from Akai Tori Ramen & Yakitori, which shuttered in February less than a year after opening.

One of the D.C. area’s favorite pizza spots is now officially open in Fairfax City.

Located at 10408 Fairfax Blvd in the 50 Point Shopping Center, the New York-style pizza chain Andy’s celebrated the grand opening of its newest Northern Virginia store last Friday (May 31), marking another step in its regional expansion.

A diner that serves all-day breakfast has made its way from the Big Apple to Vienna, giving the town a potential successor to the night-owl-friendly Amphora Restaurant.

Carnegie Diner & Cafe will celebrate its grand opening at 501 Maple Avenue West this Wednesday (June 5) — less than a month after buying the property from the Pagonis family, who had opened Yellow Diner there in early April.

Due to permit-related delays, Kook Dogg Cafe in Reston has postponed its grand opening but expects to open within the next few months.

“It’s kind of a waiting game,” co-owner Noel Kuchler told FFXnow. “[The permit] has gotten submitted, so we’re just waiting to get that approval from the county and then as soon as they approve that, then we can move forward and get going on the rest of everything.”

The brainchild of owner Sam Schnoebelen and chef Nick Palermo, Evelyn Rose is on track to open in late May at 111 Church Street NW, replacing Bazin’s on Church after the bistro ended an 18-year run on April 27.

The international bakery and cafe Paris Baguette is slated to open another franchise in Springfield later this fall.

Known for its French-style bread, pastries, desserts, and sandwiches, Paris Baguette’s upcoming location at 6811 Bland Street will be its fifth in the Fairfax area, joining other sites in Tysons, Herndon, Fairfax City and Centreville.
