Fairfax County is under several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings this afternoon.

Strong, slow-moving storms popped up over the county shortly before 4 p.m. and have continued to overspread the area. The warnings cover Tysons, Centreville, Vienna, Oakton and other areas.

The severe storms are packing wind gusts of up to 60 mph and possible hail, forecasters say.

“Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall,” the National Weather Service said in one of the warnings. “This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.”
