A 1-year-old girl died today (Thursday) following a police pursuit that started on I-95 in Franconia ended with a crash in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

According to the Virginia State Police, troopers attempted to stop a vehicle headed north on I-95 near the South Van Dorn Street exit at approximately 8:46 a.m. today (Thursday).

Former Prince William exec to join Herndon as interim town manager

The Town of Herndon has hired a former top executive from Prince William County as its interim town manager.

Christopher Martino will temporarily assume oversight of the town government’s operations on Sept. 3, taking over from current Town Manager Bill Ashton, who is set to resign effective Sept. 10, the town announced yesterday (Wednesday).

Townhome concept suggested to replace century-old Vienna house

A proposal to replace a single-family home behind the Village Green Shopping Center with townhouses encountered skepticism when the developer brought it to the Town of Vienna Planning Commission last month.

Sekas Homes presented two possible layouts for a 10-unit townhouse concept at 128 Nutley Street NW on behalf of the owners of the existing, 114-year-old house, who requested assistance with rezoning and redeveloping the property, the homebuilder’s vice president, Connor Sekas, told planning commission at a July 10 work session.

A Reston man has been arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a child at a store in the South Lakes Village Shopping Center.

Police officers were dispatched to the 11100 block of South Lakes Drive at 10:30 p.m. last Friday (Aug. 9) for a reported assault, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

Mars is upgrading its longtime headquarters in McLean.

The candy and pet food manufacturer announced yesterday (Tuesday) that, this August, it will begin a multi-year renovation of the two-story office building at 6885 Elm Street that has served as its global corporate base since 1984.

For the first time in years, the developer has a potential timeline for its long-delayed downtown Herndon redevelopment that it’s optimistic might actually hold — news greeted by community members with a mix of guarded hope and skepticism.

After a well-attended, sometimes emotional public hearing, the Herndon Town Council voted unanimously last night (Tuesday) to push back the “outside satisfaction date” to finalize an amended agreement with the developer from tomorrow (Thursday) to Sept. 10.

Langley High School football coach suspended after sexual solicitation arrest

The head football coach at Langley High School in McLean has been suspended after he was charged in Maryland with soliciting sex from a teen girl.

David Clay Murray, 48, was arrested in Fairfax County and charged by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office last Friday (Aug. 9) with five counts of sexual solicitation of a minor, the sheriff’s office said in a press release issued yesterday (Monday).

The Fairfax County Democratic Committee (FCDC) has endorsed candidates in Herndon’s mayoral and town council races following a caucus that either went smoothly or was deeply flawed, depending on who you ask.

About 94% of the 641 voters who registered for the caucus cast a ballot for mayor, buoying Councilmember Pradip Dhakal with 345 votes over fellow Councilmember Keven LeBlanc’s 261 votes, according to the official results.

A family-owned circus boasting an international cast of performers will set up its big top tent in Tysons this fall.

Circus Vazquez launched ticket sales last week for its upcoming stay at Lerner Town Square (8025 Galleria Drive) from Sept. 20 through Oct 7. Promising a brand-new show, the company is in the midst of a national tour that will also include Potomac Mills Mall in Woodbridge.

Two men were hospitalized this morning (Tuesday) by a crash on Richmond Highway (Route 1) in Lorton outside Gunston Plaza.

Police and emergency responders from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to Richmond Highway and Armistead Road around 6:50 a.m. for a two-vehicle crash that left one vehicle on fire and another with at least one person possibly trapped, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.
