Fairfax County is seeking public feedback on the future of Springfield’s Lake Accotink, which remains yet to be determined.

The county’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services opened a survey today (Monday), allowing residents to weigh in on how to navigate the current challenges impacting the lake.

The next Yu Noodles outpost, helmed by local restaurateur Cody Zhou, will be opening in the former 50 West Armory space in the Sully Place shopping center.

Trial for Herndon man accused in slaying of wife, another man set for February

The trial for a Herndon man facing charges in the slaying of his wife and another man will begin nearly two years after the killings occurred.

Brendan Banfield, 39, was indicted Monday (Sept. 16) on four counts of aggravated murder in connection to the stabbing of his wife, Christine Banfield, and the shooting of a man at their home in the Frying Pan area in February 2023.

Fairfax County board sets sights on reducing select speed limits

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has begun looking at reducing speed limits on a select number of roads across the county.

The board’s transportation committee meeting yesterday (Tuesday) included a preliminary discussion on how the county can get the ball rolling on addressing roads with speed limits of 25 mph.

Men charged with stealing guns from Newington store get prison time

Two men who pleaded guilty to stealing more than 50 firearms from a Newington gun store will each spend most of the next decade in prison.

Cedric Minger, 22, of Maryland was sentenced yesterday (Wednesday) to serve nine years and six months behind bars by the U.S. District Court for Virginia’s Eastern District. Victor Jones, 22, of Washington, was sentenced to nine years earlier this month in the same court.

King Arthur Baking to open pop-up shop next week in Fairfax Corner

One of baking’s biggest brands is bringing its pop-up shop to Fairfax Corner.

Spearheaded by King Arthur Baking Company, the store will open Monday (Sept. 16) as a one-stop shop for a wide range of baking needs. Many of the brand’s products — including 27 different flours and 86 baking mixes — will be available, along with other ingredients, tools and more.

Annual ‘Dulles Day’ returns to airport for 32nd consecutive year

An annual fundraiser supporting Special Olympics Virginia is set to return to Dulles International Airport next week.

The 32nd annual Dulles Day is scheduled to be held Saturday, September 14. Entry to the event is free, but visitors can participate in a variety of activities with a donation.

Construction underway on future Reston Whole Foods, replacing Best Buy

After four years, Reston Town Center’s old Best Buy will soon no longer be vacant.

Whole Foods is moving into the 43,266-square-foot space at 1861 Fountain Drive in the Spectrum at Reston Town Center, according to Fairfax County permit records.
