The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has postponed all public hearings set for today (Tuesday), including a pivotal vote on proposed data center regulations, to Sept. 10 due to a staff error.
The delay will also affect public hearings held at the board’s last meeting on July 16. It stems from a “regulatory oversight” related to new rules for advertising public hearings that the Virginia General Assembly passed earlier this year, the county announced.
A truck carrying metal debris crashed on Nutley Street near the Pan Am Shopping Center in Merrifield this morning (Tuesday), requiring an extended closure for clean-up.
Fairfax County police officers and Fire and Rescue units, including a hazmat team, were dispatched to Nutley Street at Route 29 around 11:20 a.m. for a report of a flipped tractor-trailer, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.

Fairfax County police have filed criminal charges in two crashes that killed pedestrians earlier this year.
A Woodbridge man was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter on Friday (July 26) in connection to a May 24 crash near the Huntington Metro Station, the Fairfax County Police Department announced yesterday (Monday).
Woman Killed in Fair Lakes Stabbing — A man is in custody after allegedly stabbing a woman at their home in the 3900 block of Highland Oaks Drive yesterday (Monday). The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died. Fairfax County police say “there is no apparent threat to the community” in what’s being described as a domestic incident. [FCPD/Twitter]
Driver Hospitalized in Reston Crash — “Baron Cameron Avenue at Fairfax County Parkway reopened to traffic Monday after being closed for several hours following a single-vehicle crash with injuries…The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.” [Patch]

Homeless Individuals on Sidewalk Raise Concerns — “A small group of unsheltered individuals who have nowhere else to go have created a community on the sidewalk on Patrick Henry Drive in Seven Corners. Rainfall will be less than a tenth of an inch, with potential for higher amounts during thunderstorms. On Tuesday night, anticipate showers and possible thunderstorms before 1am, followed by a chance of more showers and storms between 1am and 2am. The low temperature will be around 73, with a south wind at 6 to 8 mph. Despite some recent rain, Fairfax County is continuing to see an unusually dry summer, raising the possibility of a drought.
The entire D.C. region, including Fairfax County, has now been placed under a Drought Watch, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) announced today (Monday), urging nearly 6 million residents to conserve water as much as possible.
Despite the signs that popped up near the Tysons Metro station a few years ago, it doesn’t look like construction on “Tysons III” is going to start any time soon.
Tysons II property owner and developer Lerner Enterprises submitted a special permit application to Fairfax County last week seeking to extend its use of the parking lot adjacent to the Metro station for Cirque du Soleil performances through 2030.
