Two men from California are facing forgery charges for an alleged fraud scheme aimed at Target in Reston.

Officers patrolling the 12100 block of Sunset Hill Road last Wednesday (Dec. 11) as part of a Christmas Anti-Theft Team were contacted around 5:21 p.m. by the department store’s loss prevention officer, who reported a man who was suspected of committing fraud at another location the previous day, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

Maurice Eugene Smith, 44, of Atlanta is believed to have used the nearly $160,000 paid by the school to cover his personal expenses instead of booking the team’s anticipated trip to the Bahamas, according to court records.

A man was arrested last week after allegedly fleeing a crash in Vienna that left a pedestrian with serious injuries on Thanksgiving.

The pedestrian had gotten dropped off by a Lyft driver in the 900 block of Park Street SE around 8:15 p.m. on Nov. 28 and was crossing the street when a vehicle in the residential street’s northbound lane hit him, according to the Town of Vienna Police Department.

A teenager is facing manslaughter and reckless driving charges in connection to a fatal crash that occurred outside Oakton Shopping Center last month.

According to police, the 17-year-old was driving a Toyota Camry north on Hunter Mill Road “at a high rate of speed” when he hit a 2001 Acura sedan turning left into the shopping center at Lynnhaven Place around 11:20 a.m. on Nov. 9.

The police chief for Prince George’s Community College in Maryland has been arrested after he allegedly crashed into another driver near the Reserve at Fairfax Corner Apartments while drunk earlier this month.

Derek Myers, a 55-year-old Burke resident, was driving east on Random Hills Road when he lost control of his Hyundai Elantra near Fairfax Hills Way around 7:30 p.m. last Friday, Dec. 6, the Fairfax County Police Department says, citing preliminary findings by detectives.

The driver of a vehicle reported as stolen was arrested this morning (Monday) following a brief police pursuit on Richmond Highway in the Huntington area.

According to the Virginia State Police, troopers tried to stop the driver of a vehicle that turned out to be stolen at the intersection of Richmond Highway (Route 1) and Quander Road around 3 a.m. Instead of stopping, the driver fled north in Route 1’s southbound lanes.

An Alexandria man believed to have shot another man in Woodlawn yesterday (Wednesday) has been arrested.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, Dominique Witaker, 36, was engaged in a verbal argument with another man — who was known to him — when he allegedly shot the other man in the lower body.

A 17-year-old boy from Alexandria has been arrested after allegedly shooting another teen in Herndon’s Cavalier Park neighborhood last night (Monday).

The Herndon Police Department received multiple 911 calls around 8:33 p.m. yesterday for shots fired in the 1000 block of Cavalier Drive. While investigating, officers got a call from a hospital that said a teen had come in with “multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body,” according to a news release.

The man charged with raping a woman in Herndon on Monday (Nov. 18) had been sentenced to jail less than a week earlier, the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office says.

Denis Humberto Navarette Romero, 31, was previously arrested by Herndon Police for a separate incident and brought to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on Oct. 20, according to the sheriff’s office.
