The Fairfax County Police Department’s use of drones has caught the attention of the Trump administration.

Federal officials, including Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr and White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios, visited the FCPD’s Real Time Crime Center on Friday (April 24) to hype up the potential of drones to transform public safety and the U.S. economy.

A woman was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash this afternoon (Friday) on Route 29 near the Centreville Regional Library.

Police, firefighters and a medic with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to Route 29 at Machen Road around 5:32 p.m. for a crash involving at least one reportedly trapped person, according to scanner traffic.

Two Fairfax County Police Department employees were among 19 individuals statewide honored yesterday (Friday) at Virginia’s ninth annual Unsung Heroes Awards.

Presented by the Virginia attorney general’s office, the awards honor those in and out of government who provide extraordinary support for, and a voice to, victims of crime.

A sergeant in the Fairfax County Police Department was arrested over the weekend for alleged sexual abuse.

Matthew Sylvester, a 40-year-old resident of Warrenton, has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery by the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office after he was taken into custody on Saturday (April 18) around 1 a.m., according to the FCPD.

Former Virginia lieutenant governor Justin Fairfax is one of two people found dead early this morning (Thursday) after an apparent murder-suicide in Annandale.

Fairfax, 47, shot and killed his wife, 49-year-old Cerina Wanzer Fairfax, before turning the gun on himself inside the family’s home in the 8100 block of Guinevere Drive, the Fairfax County Police Department confirmed.

Fairfax County police have arrested a man believed to be the naked burglar who has recently targeted Centreville-area homes.

Two weeks after home surveillance footage was released showing a man wearing nothing but a face covering and sneakers in a local backyard, the man — a resident of the London Towne neighborhood — was taken into custody this morning (Monday).

A student at Fairfax High School was convicted yesterday (Thursday) of assault and battery after being accused of groping more than a dozen of his female classmates.

Israel Christopher Flores Ortiz, an 18-year-old who is currently a junior at the school, was found guilty by a judge on nine misdemeanor counts that stemmed from numerous instances of what prosecutor Jenna Sands described as “grabbing butts.”

A vehicle explosion rattled Burke earlier this morning (Thursday), sending the driver to the hospital and shutting down Lee Chapel Road.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched around 7:34 a.m. to Lee Chapel Road at Old Keene Mill Road for a vehicle fire near Burke Town Plaza, a shopping center anchored by Safeway.

Five people have been arrested and charged in connection with reported thefts of merchandise from various businesses last month, including four people in Reston alone.

The arrests, which occurred between March 17-27, were part of what the Fairfax County Police Department called a “coordinated enforcement effort” that resulted in 17 felony and 15 misdemeanor charges.
