A Falls Church man will spend the next 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to two violent incidents at Fairfax County massage parlors.

Mohamed Adem Tahir, 35, was sentenced last Friday (March 7) after admitting to robbing and assaulting employees at two different massage parlors.

Fairfax County says it’s making steady progress toward its long-term goal of saving Lake Accotink from disappearing completely, but some residents worry the drawn-out timeline will make it harder — and more expensive — to preserve what’s left.

Years of sediment buildup from Accotink Creek have steadily shrunk the lake from 110 acres to about 49 acres. While the county has dredged the lake in the past — most recently in 1985 and 2008 — sediment continues to accumulate at a rate of 23,000 cubic yards per year.

A man who tried to sexually assault a woman near the Springfield Crossing apartments late last month has been arrested, Fairfax County police announced yesterday (Tuesday).

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, officers were called to the 6700 block of Metropolitan Center Drive shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 27 for a report of an abduction and an attempted sexual assault.

The federal agency that led the search for a new FBI headquarters site provided some inaccurate estimates of the costs associated with a Springfield relocation, possibly hampering Fairfax County’s bid for the project, a new report found.

An Alexandria man has been charged with a felony hit-and-run for a crash in Springfield that killed a pedestrian.

Caleb Allison, 26, allegedly left the scene after striking Julio Cesar Pasassi, a 43-year-old Springfield resident, with his vehicle while driving east on Franconia Road near Elder Avenue around 6 a.m. on Sept. 13, the Fairfax County Police Department said in a press release on Friday (Dec. 20).

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A northern Virginia man targeted by an FBI sting operation has been convicted on terrorism charges for collecting funds on behalf of the Islamic State group.

Mohammed Chhipa, 35, of Springfield, was convicted late Friday afternoon on all five counts against him, including providing material support to a terrorist organization, after a weeklong trial at the U.S. District Court in Alexandria. The jury deliberated for about three hours.
