A Maryland-based nonprofit that supports athletes with limited mobility will stride across state lines this fall with a new 5K event in Reston.

Athletes Serving Athletes (ASA) opened registration last week for its first Virginia RunFest, which will be held at Reston Town Center on Saturday, Sept. 22. It will be the organization’s first-ever event in Virginia, supplementing the race that it has hosted in Hunt Valley, Maryland, where it’s headquartered, for the past 16 years.


A new pet hospital is opening up in Fairfax City.

Bond Vet, a full-service veterinary clinic for dogs and cats, is opening later this month at 9428 Fairfax Blvd, across from the Giant supermarket under the Scout on the Circle apartments. There is no definitive opening date yet, but a spokesperson told FFXnow it plans to open “within the month.”

The new owner of the now-closed ShowPlace Icon Theatre at The Boro in Tysons has been revealed.

Look Dine-In Cinemas has signed a deal to take over the 1,795-seat movie theater at 1667 Silver Hill Drive, the Washington Business Journal reports. The theater is slated to reopen on Friday (June 21) after ShowPlace held its final screenings this past Sunday (June 16), FFXnow was told.


Fairfax City is gearing up for its annual summer beer crawl this weekend.

The event, hosted by Fairfax City Economic Development, the Old Town Fairfax Business Association, and the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, will take place this Saturday, June 22, from noon to 6 p.m.


McLean’s Chesterbrook Shopping Center will officially welcome two new retail tenants this week, while preparing for another anticipated launch later in the summer.

The openings will kick off today (Tuesday) with SkinSpirit, a skin care and medical spa that describes itself as a “leading provider of Botox and filler.” Located at 6224 Old Dominion Drive, Suite D, this is the clinic’s first location in Virginia and its third in the D.C. area.

The silver screens at Tysons ShowPlace Icon Theatre will briefly go dark next week.

The Boro’s movie theater (1667 Silver Hill Drive) is scheduled to close temporarily from Monday through Thursday (June 17-20), a manager confirmed to FFXnow. However, details about why the theater is closing and what comes next have proven elusive.
