The first statewide Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division I private-school weekly high-school football poll for the 2024 season has been released, with no local teams ranked among the top six.
The Potomac School Panthers (4-2) and Flint Hill Huskies (1-5) received votes, but did not make the VISAA ranking.

Herndon Town Councilmember Naila Alam’s attendance record is under fire from one of Fairfax County’s Congressional representatives.
In a tweet sent on Sunday (Oct. 13), Rep. Gerry Connolly said Alam has had the worst attendance in the council, missing more than 25% of all public meeting since she took office in 2020.
A battle is brewing once again over the prospect of a casino in Fairfax County.

Reston Association is looking to address gaps in its fencing guidelines for single-family houses.
The community association’s staff have begun developing new standard operating procedures dictating who approves fences and general parameters for what’s accepted after getting concerns that the process is inconsistent. The Mixx Delight’s last day of business at 448 Maple Avenue East will be Nov. 17, the restaurant shared on social media earlier this week. The closure was not the restaurant’s choice, co-owner Phi Tran told FFXnow.
In his 15th year, and as the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra begins its 67th season, Music Director and Conductor Christopher Zimmerman knows what’s made the symphony flourish, and he says playing new music by living composers has been one of the leading tickets.
“The FSO and I have expanded the repertoire that we present quite considerably, particularly in the area of new music by living composers,” Zimmerman said. “From the beginning of my tenure, we have performed brand new pieces and pieces by the great, well-known composers that are perhaps a little off the beaten track, as well as those on the beaten track, of course.”
While the environment is generally a priority for Fairfax County, issues related to trees and invasive plants appear likely to take a backseat to other concerns when local elected officials lobby their state counterparts in the General Assembly next year.
