A new housing subdivision is going up just outside Lake Fairfax Park in Reston.

The land outside the former Fairfax Hunt Club at 1321 Lake Fairfax Drive has been cleared, and fencing erected, to prepare for construction on the Fairfax Hunt Estates, which will ultimately consist of eight single-family homes.

Plaza America in Reston is in a period of transition: one retailer has left, another is preparing to relocate, and the future of a third is unclear.

The question mark centers on Noodles & Company, the fast-casual noodle eatery that has occupied a prominent spot at the shopping center since 2012.

The Fairfax County School Board is considering a series of changes that might help cut down costs and other hurdles for new school projects.

During a work session on Tuesday (May 6), the school board and Fairfax County Public Schools staff discussed ways to reduce costs for new construction or share that burden with other entities — like through public-private partnerships or cost-sharing agreements.

A project to convert a former Inova office building in Merrifield into affordable housing is set to begin construction this May.

The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA) and developer Conifer Realty announced late last week that they’ve closed on financing for the repurposing of the vacant, four-story office building at 2990 Telestar Court, which will be turned into 80 apartments.

Construction has started on new shared-use pedestrian/cyclist paths in the Fair Oaks area, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced last week.

The project will replace the current sidewalks on Post Forest Drive and Random Hills Road with 10-foot-wide shared-use paths.

Construction is underway to redevelop the longstanding Kohl’s store in Herndon.

The exterior walls of the building, located at 2100 Centreville Road, now feature gaping holes, as construction crews work to accommodate three new tenants in the space.

A recently established senior living community in the Fairfax area is expanding its capacity with the addition of a new residential building.

A Woodleigh Chase Senior Living spokesperson says construction is “well underway” on Pierson Grove. Slated to open later this year, the building will bring another 122 apartment units to the 42-acre independent living campus (9805 Woodleigh Lane) off of Braddock Road near George Mason University.

One of the parking garages at the Huntington Metro Station is off limits for the foreseeable future.

Metro closed the station’s north garage (2701 Huntington Avenue) at 1 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 22) for emergency structural repairs to address the fire suppression system and other rehabilitation work, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced last Friday (Feb. 21).

The McLean Citizens Association (MCA) is calling for the Fairfax County School Board to delay the construction of a new Dunn Loring elementary school, arguing that the project is unnecessary given the ongoing decline in student enrollment at nearby schools.

The request comes ahead of a Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting tomorrow (Feb. 4), when officials are set to hold a public hearing and vote on whether to approve the project.

HITT Contracting broke ground yesterday (Thursday) morning on its new headquarters at Virginia Tech’s Northern Virginia Center in Idylwood.

In development since 2019, the six-story, 270,000-square-foot building will serve as the centerpiece of a $100 million project aimed at transforming the campus into a hub for innovation and sustainable growth. Construction is set to begin this year, with the headquarters slated to open in early 2027.
