(Updated at 2:05 p.m. on 2/28/2023) The contents of a truck that appears to have been carrying trash to the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) included a dead body, police say.
The Fairfax County Police Department has opened an investigation into the body, which it says was found this afternoon “in a trailer used for transporting trash” in the 4600 block of West Ox Road.
A preliminary investigation found “no significant trauma” on the body, an FCPD spokesperson said.
“More details will be provided as the investigation continues,” police said.

An alleged attempt to shoplift a pair of designer sunglasses from Tysons Corner Center’s Nordstrom ended in a fatal police shooting on Wednesday (Feb. 22).
The man shot and killed by two police officers near a mall parking lot that evening was D.C. resident Timothy McCree Johnson, the Fairfax County Police Department reported yesterday (Thursday). He was 37 years old.
According to the department, officers in its Tysons Urban Team went to Nordstrom around 6:30 p.m. after getting a report of a theft.
“Asset protection reported a man was concealing designer sunglasses,” the FCPD said. “An officer observed the man exiting the store near a parking garage. As he exited the store, an anti-theft alarm was activated as he fled.”
As Police Chief Kevin Davis indicated in an initial briefing that night, two officers chased Johnson through the garage, across a parking lot and into a wooded area, where they both fired their guns and hit him once in the chest.
Johnson was transported to a hospital, where he died.
The FCPD says the officers “gave [Johnson verbal] commands to get on the ground.” The officers were both assigned to the Tysons Urban Team, one as a uniformed officer and the other in plainclothes.
One of the officers has been with the department for seven years and the other for eight, according to the FCPD, which says their names will be released within 10 days.
“As per department policy, the officers have been placed on restricted duty status, pending the outcome of the criminal and administrative investigation,” police said.
Criminal and administrative investigations into the use of force are underway. Davis said on Wednesday that police were searching the scene for potential evidence, including any weapon that may have been discarded, but the press release doesn’t indicate whether anything was found.
Davis said the man shot by police was “well known” to local law enforcement in the D.C. region and had “a violent criminal history.”
However, Johnson’s mother has disputed that characterization, telling the Washington Post that he “was trying to get on the right track” after landing in custody for a parole violation. She described him as a father of two, “a loving person” and an artist who planned to go to barber school.
Melissa Johnson told the Post that she believes her son was unarmed when police shot him.
There are no cases involving a Timothy McCree Johnson in Fairfax County General District Court records.
A search of D.C. courts turns up a record for a 2017 civil wrongful death lawsuit involving a defendant with the same name. Stemming from a fatal vehicle crash, the complaint was dismissed after two months.
A federal district court in D.C. also convicted a Timothy McCrae Walker — who was apparently also known as Timothy McCree Johnson — in 2006 on felony gun charges.
The FCPD didn’t immediately respond to FFXnow’s comment request seeking to confirm whether Johnson was the person in those cases.
(Updated at 4:55 p.m.) A man has died after being pulled by a Metro train at the Dunn Loring station this afternoon, prompting a suspension of service between Vienna and West Falls Church.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Rail Operations Control Center and Transit Police Department received a report shortly before 1:30 p.m. that a person was being dragged by a train.
“Despite lifesaving measures, unfortunately the adult male individual was pronounced deceased after being transported to the hospital,” a Metro spokesperson said. “The investigation is in its early stages, but preliminarily it appears that an item being carried by the individual became caught in the train doors before it departed the station, dragging the individual down the platform.”
Shuttle buses and Metrobus routes 28A and 2B can also be used as alternate travel options were offered as alternate travel options until train service between the Vienna and West Falls Church stations was restored around 2:50 p.m.
The Orange and Silver lines also briefly switched to single-tracking between Ballston and Clarendon in Arlington.
Confirming social media reports that the man’s dog was found on a train at the West Falls Church station, Metro Transit Police say the man was holding the dog’s leash, which was the “item” that got caught in the train doors.
“The deceased cleared the platform and was on the platform away from the car, but upon closer review, a leash appears to be tied to the person, which was unfortunately caught in the door, leaving the dog with no ID inside of the car,” the police department said. “This obstruction caused the individual to be dragged on the platform and onto the tracks.”
The dog is now being taken care of by police, the department says, which noted that the pet “does not appear to be a service animal.”
WMATA only allows pets other than service animals on trains and buses if they’re “carried aboard in a secure container from which it cannot escape.”
According to police, surveillance video showed that the man was about 450 feet away from the train’s cab, and the train operator made two “safe door checks” before starting the vehicle.
The Washington Metrorail Safety Commission says it has launched an investigation into the incident.

(Updated at 3:40 p.m.) A teen was taken into police custody after allegedly stabbing and ultimately killing his mother’s boyfriend in a Hybla Valley apartment last night (Sunday), police say.
Officers were called to the apartment in the 7900 block of Janna Lee Avenue just before 10 p.m. after the teen reported that his mother was being assaulted by her boyfriend, Fairfax County Police Department Second Lt. James Curry said in a brief update at 1 a.m.
Marcus Roberson, a 32-year-old D.C. resident, was transported to a nearby hospital with stab wounds to his upper body, according to police. He died at the hospital.
“Detectives are actively investigating to determine the circumstances that led to the stabbing,” Curry said.
An initial investigation appears to have backed up the teen’s report to police:
Preliminarily, detectives from our Major Crime Bureau and Crime Scene Section determined Roberson was visiting the address when a verbal argument escalated into an assault. The juvenile teenager reported he stabbed Roberson to stop the assault. There were three other children inside the apartment that were unharmed. The woman was treated at the scene for injuries not considered life threatening.
According to the FCPD, the teen was released to his mother after being interviewed last night and hasn’t been charged for the stabbing, which detectives believe may have been “a justifiable homicide.”
“Detectives continue to conduct interviews and process evidence recovered from the scene to determine the circumstances that led up to the fatal stabbing,” the police department said.
Charges may be filed at a later date based on a consultation between police and the Office of the Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney. An autopsy will be conducted “in the coming days” to confirm the cause and manner of Roberson’s death.
This is the second fatal stabbing seen in Fairfax County this year. The previous incident on Jan. 10 also reportedly stemmed from domestic violence, as an adult man in McLean allegedly stabbed his mother and stepfather, who died.

(Updated at 3:25 p.m.) A man in McLean died last night after reportedly being stabbed by his stepson, Fairfax County police say.
Officers were called to a house in the 1200 block of Colonial Road in McLean at 11:03 p.m. in response to a domestic call involving two stabbing victims, Fairfax County Police Department Second Lt. James Curry said in a 1:48 a.m. update.
In the call, a woman said her son had stabbed her and her husband.
The son — identified in a report released this afternoon as 39-year-old Adam Timothy Jackson Jr. — was leaving the house and taken into custody when officers arrived.
“Upon searching the home, they found the husband suffering trauma to the upper body,” Curry said. “Life-saving measures were attempted but sadly he was declared deceased at the home.”
According to police, the victim was 68-year-old Alan Miller Kaufman, Jackson’s stepfather.
The woman was transported to a hospital with injuries that police said were not considered life-threatening.
“The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy in the coming days to determine the cause and manner of death,” the FCPD said. “Detectives continue to conduct interviews, collect video surveillance and process evidence recovered from the scene to determine the circumstances that led up to the fatal stabbing.”

(Updated at 1:15 p.m.) A Woodbridge man has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing a man in Lorton on New Year’s Eve.
Robert William Peters Jr., 23, turned himself in to Fairfax County police detectives on Monday night (Jan. 2), two days after 42-year-old Lorton resident Nahom Beyene was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the 9500 block of Unity Lane.
“Peters and Beyene were known to each other, and this was not a random act,” the Fairfax County Police Department said yesterday.
FCPD officers were called to the scene around 7:32 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 31) for a report of a shooting. They found Beyene “in the threshold of the doorway” to a home, but Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel ultimately declared him deceased.
Police say surveillance footage from residents in the neighborhood led them to identify “several individuals” who were seen in the area before and after the shooting.
Peters faces charges of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, though no firearm has been recovered yet, according to police.
He is currently in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
The cause of Beyene’s death will be officially confirmed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner “in the coming days,” the FCPD said.

Beyene’s death was the 15th gun-related homicide seen in Fairfax County in 2022, the FCPD says.
(Updated at 3:10 p.m.) A man was struck by a bus and killed on Fairfax County Parkway this afternoon, Fairfax County police say.
Police say a preliminary investigation indicates that the man “intentionally jumped in front of a vehicle” at the Old Keene Mill Road intersection in Burke. The call for service went out at 1:48 p.m., according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The road has been closed from Old Keene Mill to Burke Lake Road to the north. Traffic backups extend for approximately 1 mile, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation’s traffic information site.
The FCPD confirmed to FFXnow that the vehicle was a bus, but not a school bus.

(Updated at 3:45 p.m.) A dog was shot and killed by Fairfax County police during a search of a house in Herndon this morning.
Officers with the Fairfax County Police Department’s SWAT team were serving a search warrant in the 1500 block of Powells Place Tavern, a neighborhood of single-family homes near Dranesville Elementary School, according to the department.
The team was looking to recover police equipment that had been stolen “from another jurisdiction,” the FCPD said at 7 a.m.
“During the service, at least one officer discharged their firearm striking a dog,” police said. “No other injuries reported.”
The department tweeted at 7:35 a.m. that the dog had died.
In an update this afternoon, police said the search warrant was executed in connection to a larceny of an unmarked Prince William County police vehicle reported in the 13900 block of Mansarde Avenue in the Dulles area on July 28.
“The unmarked police vehicle was assigned to a civilian investigator from the Prince William County Police Department,” the FCPD said. “A ballistic vest, a gas mask and a set of keys were stolen from inside the vehicle.”
The department say it obtained the search warrant after its Gang Intelligence Unit detectives learned that an 18-year-old Herndon area resident had the stolen items. The teen was arrested today, and the stolen property was recovered, along with an “AK47-style rifle,” police said.
Per the FCPD, the teen has been charged with possession of stolen property and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held in custody with no bond.
“The circumstances leading up to the discharge of the firearm and the death of the domestic animal are being investigated by our Internal Affairs Bureau,” the FCPD said. “We will provide additional information when it becomes available.”

A man from Centreville is facing firearm and animal cruelty charges after allegedly shooting his neighbor’s dog multiple times, resulting in the animal’s death.
According to Fairfax County police, 33-year-old Roman Vyacheslavov Gorelov shot a 2-year-old yellow Labrador and beagle mix after an argument with the dog’s owner at the Stonegate Faircrest Condominiums Friday morning (Nov. 11):
Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau preliminarily determined Gorelov exchanged words with the owner of the Labrador mix in the breezeway of the apartments. Gorelov then displayed a firearm and shot the dog. The owner picked up the dog and ran away from the breezeway. Gorelov followed the man then shot the dog several more times.
Officers responded to the scene in the 5100 block of Brittney Elyse Circle at 9:47 a.m. and found the dog’s owner next to the animal near a playground, police said.
They were told that Gorelov “returned to his nearby apartment” after the shooting, according to police.
“Officers contacted Gorelov by phone, and he surrendered to police. The dog was taken to a nearby veterinarian hospital and pronounced deceased,” the Fairfax County Police Department said.
Gorelov has been charged with animal cruelty and reckless discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school — both felonies. The Stonegate Faircrest Condos are just south of I-66 near Arrowhead Park and Colin Powell Elementary School.
Detectives located a firearm while conducting a search of Gorelov’s apartment, according to police.
Gorelov is currently in being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
(Updated at 6:05 p.m. on 11/13/2022) A man was shot and killed in Oakton last night following an apparent fight with a homeowner that led the latter to retrieve a gun, police say.
The Fairfax County Police Department is currently investigating the fatal shooting in the 11400 block of Waples Mill Road as a self-defense case, Second Lt. James Curry told media yesterday. Preliminarily, there’s no indication that the two men involved in the incident knew each other, he said.
Officers were called to a reported shooting in the relatively secluded residential neighborhood just after 6 p.m.
Based on an initial investigation, police believe the homeowner was outside on his property when a man approached, later identified as 24-year-old Eduardo Santos from Herndon. They got into an altercation that became physical, leading the resident to retreat into his house.
“He retrieved a firearm from inside the home, and at some point, the man made entry into the home with an object that appears to be a large landscaping rock,” Curry said. “The homeowner then fired and shot the man. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The homeowner was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that appear to have come from the assault. Detectives believe Santos assaulted the homeowner with a stick, and the homeowner sustained the injuries when Santos tackled him and he fell.
His wife and two children were in the house at the time of the shooting, along with another adult who’s unrelated but also a resident of that home, according to police. They were not injured.
The FCPD said in an update on Friday (Nov. 11) that its officers had received two calls for service about Santos earlier on Wednesday.
“After canvassing the area, detectives determined Santos was in the area Wednesday afternoon for several hours,” the department said. “…On one occasion, officers found him, but no crime was established. Santos refused to speak to police, and he walked away from the area. During the second incident, Santos was not found.”
Police are still working to determine what led Santos to the house.
“As we can interview more folks, review the surveillance footage, we can get a better understanding of what happened outside, but there was an assault that occurred outside on the property that led the homeowner to retreat back into the home that led to our fatal shooting here,” Curry said.
