A woman was killed in a crash that occurred outside Oakton Shopping Center Saturday morning (Sept. 21).

Choon Kook, 80, from Vienna was hit by the driver of a Ford F-150 while walking at the intersection of Hunter Mill Road and Lynnhaven Place. She was transported to a hospital with injuries considered life-threatening, the Fairfax County Police Department reported in a tweet at 10:32 a.m.

The trial for a Herndon man facing charges in the slaying of his wife and another man will begin nearly two years after the killings occurred.

Brendan Banfield, 39, was indicted Monday (Sept. 16) on four counts of aggravated murder in connection to the stabbing of his wife, Christine Banfield, and the shooting of a man at their home in the Frying Pan area in February 2023.

An internal investigation is underway after a police officer shot and killed a Reston woman during a welfare check on Monday (Sept. 16).

In an update on the incident released yesterday (Wednesday), the Fairfax County Police Department identified the officer as a 14-year veteran assigned to the Reston Patrol District with crisis intervention training (CIT).

A Herndon man has officially been charged with murder in connection to the 2023 deaths of his wife and another man at their home in the Frying Pan area.

Brendan Banfield, a former IRS criminal investigative agent, was indicted today (Monday) by a grand jury for his alleged involvement in the shooting and stabbing that killed Christine Banfield and Joseph Ryan, a 39-year-old Springfield man, the Fairfax County Police Department and Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano announced.

A 33-year-old woman was shot and killed by a Fairfax County police officer this morning (Monday) at the VY Reston Heights apartment building.

Officers were dispatched to the residences at 11830 Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston around 10:03 a.m. for a welfare check, according to the county’s police scanner. Officers reported “shots fired” at 10:17 a.m.

Fairfax County police are investigating a hit-and-run crash on Franconia Road in Springfield that resulted in a pedestrian’s death.

Officers were dispatched to Franconia Road at Elder Avenue near Frontier Plaza around 6:10 a.m. after passersby reported seeing a vehicle that drove off the road, hitting a pole, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.

Defense attorneys for Wesley Shifflett filed a motion in Fairfax County Circuit Court on Friday (Sept. 6) seeking to “quash” the grand jury indictment that charged the former police sergeant with involuntary manslaughter and reckless discharge of a firearm for killing Timothy Johnson on Feb. 22, 2023.

Fairfax County let loose its archery program aimed at controlling the local white-tailed deer population this past Saturday (Sept. 7). 

The Fairfax County Deer Management Archery Program allows qualified bowhunters to hunt deer in areas where firearm use is restricted or not an effective or sustainable method. The program started in 2010 to minimize the impacts of an overabundance of deer.

Fairfax County police have identified a man who allegedly exposed himself in public at two different Tysons shopping centers.

The 22-year-old McLean resident was arrested last Tuesday (Sept. 3) for reportedly “exposing himself and attempting to touch customers inappropriately” in Tysons West (1500 Cornerside Blvd) earlier that day, the Fairfax County Police Department said on Friday (Sept. 6).
