Opening day has arrived for Primark’s first store in Virginia.

The Ireland-based fashion company will cut the ribbon on its new, two-story shop at Tysons Corner Center at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday), welcoming customers with free tote bags, complimentary sweets from Georgetown Cupcakes and other giveaways.

Burlington is set to open its doors in Mount Vernon this weekend, offering the first 100 customers a $10 discount on their first purchase.

Formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory, the discount retailer will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, June 28, at 7690B Richmond Highway in the Mount Vernon Plaza outdoor shopping center to celebrate its new store’s grand opening.

If you’ve visited Tysons Corner Center recently, you may have noticed some changes around the mall, from stores bouncing to different locations to a large LED screen looming over the Tysons One Place and Westpark Drive intersection.

Some of the alterations are the result of $110 million in combined investments in the property made over the past year by mall owner and developer Macerich and by its retailers, according to a recent press release highlighting some of the enhancements.

The Container Store is set to open its new Springfield location this weekend at Springfield Plaza and plans to give out free prizes to the first 100 customers.

The Texas-based company, known for its home and office organization products, announced earlier this week that the new store will open on Saturday, June 15, at 6412 Springfield Plaza. The release also noted plans to open another location in Ashburn on July 27.

Northern Virginia Magazine has unveiled the results of an extensive reader poll to determine the best spots for dining, shopping and entertainment in the region.

Fairfax County establishments came out on top in several categories, claiming the region’s best barbecue, Chinese and Korean food, water park, outdoor shopping district and more, according to the annual poll. The results were published online yesterday (Monday) after first appearing in print in the magazine’s June issue.

A new pop-up store at Tysons Corner Center hopes to entice shoppers on the lookout for possible Mother’s Day gifts.

Emilia George, a New York-based maternity lifestyle retailer, is running a pop-up kiosk in the mall with clothes and accessories geared toward expecting and current mothers. The shop will operate on the second floor between Sephora and Lush until Friday, May 17.

A fast-casual Turkish restaurant that specializes in chicken, fashion designer Kate Spade and a fitness clothing brand are all slated to open locations in the mall at 1961 Chain Bridge Road later this year, according to a press release.

At a board of directors meeting today (Wednesday), the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority unveiled more than a dozen new concessions planned at Dulles and Reagan National Airport.
