The D.C. Shorts International Film Festival is coming back to Merrifield.

The four-day festival will kick off its 21st year this Thursday (Sept. 5) with an afternoon of movie screenings and a welcome party at Crescendo Studios, a music school at 8101-A Route 29 that features a recording studio, a Black Box typically used for concerts and other event spaces.


One of the longest-standing restaurants in Vienna has emerged triumphant from the 2024 NoVA Breakfast Wars.

Vienna Inn was declared the winner yesterday (Tuesday) of the bracket-style competition organized by Northern Virginia Magazine, which invited its readers to vote for their favorite place to grab a morning meal out of 32 selected contenders from around the region.

Reggae on the Lake, an annual event in Reston that celebrates reggae music and culture, will be back for its third year this weekend.

Hosted by Reston Community Center and the Lake Anne of Reston Condominium Unit Owners Association (LARCA), the festival will take place from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Lake Anne Plaza (1609 Washington Plaza).


Time is running out for Vienna residents to grab a giant cookie from MidnighTreats without having to leave town or pay a shipping fee.

The bakery at 167 Glyndon Street SE will close for good after this Saturday (Sept. 7), less than two years after opening in owner and founder Johnny Nguyen’s hometown. MidnighTreats announced the closure last Friday (Aug. 30) in an email to members of its rewards program.

Reston’s North Point Village Center will soon swap one local bagel maker for another.

Bobby’s Bagel Cafe is set to permanently close its shop at 1484 North Point Village Center on Oct. 31, an employee told FFXnow. In its place, the popular “Jew-ish” deli Call Your Mother will reportedly rise, continuing its recent expansion into Northern Virginia.


In Fairfax City, Labor Day will coincide with the start of Summer Restaurant Week featuring Italian, Chinese, Caribbean and Mexican cuisines.

More than 25 restaurants will offer promotions to diners starting Monday, Sept. 2 through Sunday, Sept. 8.

The Town of Vienna is now down to just one mochi donut shop.

Donutchew closed permanently last week after just over two years at 107 Maple Avenue West, serving its final customers on Thursday, Aug. 22. Though some customers got wind of the closure earlier, it wasn’t announced on social media until that evening.
