A select few customers will receive free pastry this weekend as a Springfield bakery celebrates its grand opening.

The first 50 guests in line at Paris Baguette’s newest Fairfax-area outpost, located at 6811 Bland Street, will receive one of its many pastries for free as part of Saturday’s festivities.


South Lakes High School’s parent-teacher-student association (PTSA) will get a holiday season boost from a local business for its food pantry and other activities.

Throughout the coming week, the Reston location of Great Clips will donate money to the PTSA for each paying customer it sees. The fundraiser is set to launch tomorrow (Saturday) and continue through Friday, Dec. 20.

Neighborhood Restaurant Group will shake up its presence at the Mosaic District in Merrifield in 2025.

Retail butcher Red Apron closed its doors permanently earlier this month after 11 years in operation, but the storefront located at 8298 Glass Alley will remain in the family.


The full impact of Comstock’s decision to halt its plans for a mixed-use development in downtown Herndon is still solidifying, but at least one ripple effect of the project appears to be irreversible.

The independent bookstore A Thousand Stories announced earlier this month that Saturday, Dec. 21 will be its last day in business. In a push to clear its shelves, the store at 750 Center Street is offering extended hours and discounts of 20% to 40% off all items until it closes.

Expect rain and patchy fog until 1pm, with temperatures peaking at 62°F by 10am, then dropping to around 45°F. The south wind will be 14 to 22 mph, shifting to northwest in the afternoon and possibly gusting up to 32 mph. Precipitation is likely, with 1 to 2 inches possible. For Wednesday night, there’s a chance of rain before 10pm, followed by gradual clearing and a low around 31°F. As the calendar flips to 2025, the grand opening of a new dining option at Fair Oaks Mall is on the horizon.

The New Jersey-based Ugly Dumpling is targeting March to open its restaurant within the mall, a company spokesperson told FFXnow.
