Eight players from Fairfax County high schools were members of the Hampden-Sydney College football team during the fall season.

Three of the players were significant contributors for the Division III Virginia team that finished with a 5-5 overall record and 3-4 in conference play.

With a combined 20 victories, the Flint Hill Huskies and Potomac School Panthers are enjoying winning girls basketball seasons.

Each high-school team had 10 wins when the week began, including six straight wins by the Panthers (10-6) and two in a row by the Huskies (10-5).

With two wrestlers finishing 5-0 and four 4-1, the Lake Braddock Bruins finished second at the 10-team Highlander Duals competition at McLean High School.

The Battlefield Bobcats of Prince William County finished first with a 5-0 record at the 10-team Saturday (Jan. 18) event. Lake Braddock was second with a 4-1 record, losing to the Bobcats, 57-18.

A number of local track-and-field athletes had top finishes in the girls competition at the Virginia Showcase 2025 indoor high-school meet in Virginia Beach.

One of the top performers was Herndon High School runner Meghan Sullivan. The senior won the 3,200-meters in 10:57.2 and was a very close second in the 1,600 in 5:08.5.

With a winner of two individual races leading the way, the Oakcrest Chargers enjoyed a strong performance at the Northern Virginia Catholic Swimming and Diving Championships.

Oakcrest placed sixth in the girls private high-school meet in Manassas.

A couple of key boys basketball games are on tap in coming days involving first-place teams in the Concorde and Patriot districts.

In the Concorde, the South Lakes Seahawks (9-2) and Westfield Bulldogs (10-4) are tied for first with 3-0 records. The high-school squads are set to play Friday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Reston at South Lakes.

The stage is set for a showdown for first in Concorde District girls basketball between neighborhood rivals Chantilly Chargers and Centreville Wildcats.

The game is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Centreville.

Leading start to finish, the Langley Saxons won a key game in Liberty District girls basketball action against the host Washington-Liberty Generals.

With the 53-38 victory Wednesday night (Jan. 15), Langley (11-3) remained in first place in the district with a 5-0 record.

Madison High School graduate Connor Barry had a productive season for the Christopher Newport University football team during the fall.

The sophomore starting quarterback completed 68 percent of his passes and averaged 195 yards per game throwing the ball for the Division III Captains.

A contest-within-the-contest played out Monday (Jan. 13) when the Wakefield Warriors hosted the Marshall Statesmen in Liberty District boys basketball action.

The game feature a battle-of-the-big men showdown between 6-foot-6 senior centers Kooper Odar of Wakefield and Anderson Krisko of Marshall.
