Lake Anne jazz festival returns to raise funds for music education

The Mykle Lyons Commemorative Concert and Jazz Festival will return to Lake Anne Plaza in Reston this Saturday (Aug. 31).

For its fourth year, the annual celebration of Lyons, a jazz musician and longtime Reston resident who died in 2021, will seek to continue his legacy by raising funds to create a music education initiative for Reston Association.

Indian restaurant Spice 6 closes, Vietnamese eatery in the works near Dunn Loring Metro

One of the Shops at Avenir Place’s earliest tenants has left.

Spice 6, a fast-casual Indian restaurant, closed its doors last Wednesday (Aug. 21) after serving customers near the Dunn Loring Metro station for nearly a decade.

J. Crew Factory store may be coming to Tysons strip mall

A discount clothing retailer appears to be coming soon to Tysons, right down the street from both Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria.

Pike 7 Plaza will be home to a J. Crew Factory store, according to permit applications submitted to Fairfax County. It will be located at 8387 Leesburg Pike, between the strip mall’s Lidl and DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse stores.

D.C. bar owners branch out with planned Tysons laser hair removal clinic

A laser hair removal clinic based in Arlington is honing in on Tysons as the site of its first expansion.

Capital Laser announced last week that it has sold its first franchise to 202 Bars operators Matt Weiss and Mike Schuster, who are best known as the owners of Barrel, Union Pub and other D.C. bars.

Indoor trampoline park landing in Chantilly next year

The indoor trampoline park chain Sky Zone has targeted Chantilly for its next location in Northern Virginia.

While the exact address is still being determined, the general area will be home to one of eight new parks announced by the company last Thursday (Aug. 22).

Fairfax County hotels, restaurant up for statewide Ordinary Awards

Virginia’s main hospitality industry group has unveiled the finalists for its annual Ordinary Awards, and a few Fairfax County businesses and residents made the list.

In contention for “Hotel of the Year,” one of 24 categories, is The Watermark Hotel at Capital One Center in Tysons. It will compete with The Georges in Lexington and River’s Rest Marina & Resort in Charles City, the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association (VRLTA) announced yesterday (Thursday).
