Tchaikovksy’s ‘The Nutcracker’ ballet to take stage at GMU with full orchestra

The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra (FSO) and Fairfax Ballet will reunite later this month for their annual performances of “The Nutcracker” at George Mason University.

Continuing a tradition that’s now in its eighth year, the two local arts organizations will present two shows of Pytor Tchaikovsky’s holiday staple this Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 21 and 22) at Mason’s Center for the Arts (4373 Mason Pond Drive) in Fairfax.

Bob & Edith’s Diner to open later this month in Newington

A local diner chain will open its latest restaurant mere days before the calendar flips to 2025.

Bob & Edith’s Diner will start serving customers at 6451 Old Beulah Street in Newington on Dec. 27, business manager Rebekah Steele told FFXnow.

The calm wind will become south at 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon, with an 80% chance of precipitation and possible amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. On Wednesday night, showers will continue mainly before 10pm with patchy fog clearing by 7pm. The low will be around 37 with southwest winds at 8 to 15 mph, becoming northwest after midnight and possibly gusting up to 23 mph. Paris Baguette to celebrate grand opening in Springfield with free pastries

A select few customers will receive free pastry this weekend as a Springfield bakery celebrates its grand opening.

The first 50 guests in line at Paris Baguette’s newest Fairfax-area outpost, located at 6811 Bland Street, will receive one of its many pastries for free as part of Saturday’s festivities.

Reston hair salon to support South Lakes HS with fundraiser

South Lakes High School’s parent-teacher-student association (PTSA) will get a holiday season boost from a local business for its food pantry and other activities.

Throughout the coming week, the Reston location of Great Clips will donate money to the PTSA for each paying customer it sees. The fundraiser is set to launch tomorrow (Saturday) and continue through Friday, Dec. 20.
