Hear ye, hear ye! If you’re one of those frustrated by the ticket kerfuffle tripping up the Maryland Renaissance Festival, perchance Tysons could interest you in a little Renn Fest of its own.

Shipgarten is hosting its Summer Renaissance Festival next Saturday, Aug. 16, from 1-6 p.m. The festival will include presumably biergarten-sized variants of arrow shooting, axe throwing and jousting.


The credits will soon start rolling on Sundance Living, though its fate won’t be as flashy as the one that awaited the heroes of its namesake movie.

Apparently shutting down for good, the apparel and home decor chain founded by actor and director Robert Redford is holding closing sales online and at all its physical stores, including the lone Virginia location at the Mosaic District (2910 District Avenue, Suite 140) in Merrifield.

Reston’s annual cardboard boat race is set to make a splash this weekend.

The Cardboard Boat Regatta will return to the waters of Lake Anne on Saturday (Aug. 9) for a friendly competition to raise money for the Reston Museum, the nonprofit that organizes the event.


After a mere three-day absence, Whole Foods Market is back open in Reston.

The grocery store welcomed customers to its new, larger location at the Spectrum at Reston Town Center yesterday (Wednesday), offering complimentary coffee and snacks from Manassas-based Café Kreyol and Maryland’s Whisked by Jenna.

A rapidly expanding restaurant chain has identified Reston for one of its newest locations.

Signage has appeared above a storefront near Home Depot for Nash & Smashed, a D.C.-area chain offering Nashville-style chicken, smashburgers and much more.


Silva Sarkees and her son, Harry Sarkees, are back in business in Vienna.

A half-decade after closing Silva’s Patisserie, the culinary duo reintroduced themselves to their longtime hometown in early July with the aptly named Silva & Son, a new bakery that serves Mediterranean sandwiches, salads and dips as well as bread and pastries.

Japanese restaurant Japomen, a popular sushi and ramen spot outside the Dunn Loring Metro station in Merrifield, is heading further south in Fairfax County.

Japomen is under construction in the Hilltop Village Center in Kingstowne at 6460 Old Beulah Street. It will fill a space previously occupied by DonutChew between Mattress Warehouse and Deka Lash.
