Those who have come to try Layered‘s viral fruit-shaped pastries during the cafe’s soft opening have been finding much more than they’ve bargained for.

Since the cafe opened its doors in Fairfax City at Courthouse Plaza (3924 Blenheim Blvd) earlier this summer, diners have been greeted by long lines and, in some instances, empty cases.


Checkers & Rally’s is circling Fairfax County, searching for a spot that one of its drive-thru restaurants can pull into.

No specific locations have been identified yet, but the fast-food chain is actively recruiting franchisees who could introduce it to the county, according to a public relations representative, citing Springfield specifically as one possible area of interest.


A new ear piercing studio has set up shop at Tysons Corner Center.

Studs, a growing national chain started in New York City, opened its first Virginia location at the mall’s second level near Nordstrom (1961 Chain Bridge Road, Suite J8U) on Aug. 13.

Getting axed will take on a more literal yet more enjoyable meaning in Tysons next week with the arrival of Level99.

Ax Run, where players race along a narrow beam while dodging swinging foam axes, is one of 53 games that will test patrons’ physical and mental agility when the unique entertainment venue opens at Tysons Corner Center on Monday (Aug. 25).


Maggiano’s Little Italy is vacating Tysons Galleria (2001 International Drive) next month ahead of a planned move to Tysons Corner Center.

Staff at the location told FFXnow that the two-story restaurant, which has served Italian cuisine at the Galleria since the mid-1990s, will have its last day of business at its current location on Sept. 23.

Reston Art Gallery and Studios will be overtaken by weeds next month — an intrusion that, in this case, will be enthusiastically welcomed.

The gallery at Lake Anne Plaza (11400 Washington Plaza West) announced today (Tuesday) that it will host a new exhibit titled “Weeds & Seeds: Observed Motifs” from local visual artist Jennifer Duncan from Sept. 6-28.
